I was doing a search for future plans for Cadillac and found this below from Edmunds. Am I reading correctly? Is the V12 XLS going to replace the current XLR?

"From Edmunds:

General Motors' Cadillac brand is in the process of a major product overhaul that will usher in a new look, as well as a number of new models, for the premium brand.

The sweeping transformation is a key element of GM's blueprint to build Cadillac into a truly global luxury brand that can compete with such European stalwarts as Mercedes-Benz and BMW in nearly every size and price segment.....

.....By 2012, Cadillac will be offering a range of vehicles on four different RWD platforms, starting with a new compact architecture known internally as Alpha. An updated version of the Sigma platform underpins the '08 CTS, while the next-generation DTS luxury sedan and a new V12 flagship sedan known as the XLS will be built on the upcoming Zeta platform. The replacement for the XLR roadster will share the new C7 platform with the next-generation Chevrolet Corvette."

Is the replacement name for XLR in 2012 XLS ?

I've also heard some rumblings about a V-16. Now, that would be cool in an XLR.

Part of the article I quoted originally said towards the bottom of the story:

"The next-generation XLS roadster has been penciled in for a 2012 launch"

So do they mean that the XLR will have a new name in 2012?

What does XLR stand for?

Does anyone know what the letters XLR stand for officially?

My take on the Cadillac naming scheme is below:

DTS - Deville Touring Sedan
STS - Seville Touring Sedan
ETC - Eldorado Touring Coupe
CTS - Compact(?) Touring Sedan
CTX - Compact(?) Touring Crossover(?)
XLR - :confused Luxury Roadster
XLS - :confused Luxury Sedan

Not true Ruthy.................The first letter designates the model, which every GM car has, the rest of it, GOD only knows.
We talked about this about a year ago and I forget what it all meant.I do know that it is not exstreme luxury roadsterquote=Lola's mom;28254]I heard it was: Experimental Luxury Roadster

Then the answer probably lies in John McCormick's, XLR ..... if someone has theirs handy ....

Shall we try eXtra Luxury Roadster?

It's very funny, just yesterday I asked Maryann if she knew what the letters mean, she guessed the above.

I didn't want to post here as I thought it would be a stupid question as everyone but us knew the answer! :lol

We all where told what the letters meant last year and I guess I'm not the only one whose memory sucks. Do I win a prize for remembering that we where told?
Tenth generation of what? Meaning there have been nine previous models/generations? Is that since Caddy has been a company? Or what??? :crazy

We'll put the prize on hold for the time being.

Ours is headed back into its favorite place in the world - the service department to have even more suspension parts replaced in hopes of stopping all the moaning and groaning its making.

On the bright side, a few more swapped parts and we will have a new car - of course the old one only has 5,000 miles and sees the service department more often than most of the mechanics who work there!

In my mind the "X" marks the spot where we feel like burying it sometimes. :cry

Well, Mark .... maybe when you put a few more miles on it .... like when we head out to Las Vegas in April that will work out some of those groaning sounds ..... right now I think your X is moaning because the weather has been so bad that she has been regulated to the garage. :jester

So... it looks like you and Doris, me and Ray, Jetboy, and Standby will be cruising the desert the last weekend of April (25th) .... going to Las Vegas .... anyone else interested?
PM or email ... I'll post more later ... right now it looks like we will meet there .... maybe a few of us can meet up in Barstow and run in together (Bring your Valentine ... !) That is a great stretch of road (miles and miles) to see what your X can do! :D
