Forum members, I am looking at holding a Rendezvous for XLR owners in Bowling Green, Kentucky next August. This would include a tour of the Corvette/XLR assembly plant on Friday 8/17/07.

Please let me know if you are interested in this. Based on response, I will make arrangements for the tour and obtain rates at a nearby hotel.

Those who attended the Rendezvous in New Mexico this year had a good time and it is a great way to meet other XLR owners and exchange information and see other cars.

Individuals who have visited the Bowling Green plant know what a great chance it is to see the XLRs being built. In 8/07 they will be building the 2008 models and it would be an opportunity to see any new changes in the XLRs and XLR-V for 2008.

Let me know if you are interested. (I know a few of us will go anyway):party

Jim,
10-4 good buddy, we have us a Convoy on the I-40 east bound Rubber Duck.
I can see the helicopters in the air and the bears writing out tickets on the ground now. I'd love to do this again, especially hitting Beale St for Ribs in Memphis. You have to make this a stop.

This is what you will be going to.

Go here for the best ribs in Memphis or choose from 30 other rib joints on this street. Great night time action place.

I've been to the factory before and it is worth the trip, museum isn't too shabby either.. I believe Beach Park drag strip may also be available to apease Bob's needs. Lot's of good roads in the area for a nice poker run or such.

Count me in :party

Jim,

When I was there for a motorcycle rally they used the Hampton Inn as one of the base hotels. Staff was very courteous with free used towels for the show and shine and it was walking distance to a few decent themed eateries. The roads around Barren Lake make for an excellent poker run route.

Kent, Thanks for the tip on the hotel. I will check with them for a rate for the event. The Assembly Plant has already confirmed we have 8/17/007 at 10 am for our special tour. They have only had one other XLR group go through and it was a small group from the mid-west. With this response in the first day, maybe we can get a good sized group together.:cheers

Gee, I gave a tip on great food in Memphis, but Jim didn't thank me for my tip. I even posted pics :( see if I let you buy me dinner again. :)
How are you going to handle the fee for the tour?

Soory Bob, Got busy and couldn't get all my replies out. Thanks for the tip on food. As we get a head count together and work it out with the plant we will work out details on fee for the tour. We will probably include the fee in the registration for the event. I will probably do it like last time with the entry, which will include a nice shirt, and pay for the party and gifts out of the registration fee. We are looking forward to the caravan (if we can keep up with your car).:jester

The Hampton Inn has offered us rooms for $89 (normal rates start at $109). Let me know what everyone thinks. If most people like this, I will confirm with them. They are upgrading everything right now and their parking lot will make it easier to wash cars and do a nice Park n Shine.

When we were there, 2001 I believe, that Hampton Inn was already better than most I had stayed at. Glad to hear they are keeping it up. There is a 50's style diner walking distance away that had a lot of seating capaicity and they were doing specials for the group I was with. Don't remember the name but I'm sure the hotel will.

Kent, They told me the same thing. We can hold a party in a room at the rest. which is decorated like a garage. It is used by the local corvette club. They will also give drink specials to everyone with a Rendezvous shirt. Glad you will make it. After the first of the year I will get the registration forms out. Jim:cheers

Well, we all know that I'm in, but like Bob, I'm not sure that I want to put that many miles on my Star Black, after this last trip to Illinois and Florida. Welcome back Hans, I do hope that you had a wonderful vacation! :cheers

Hey Jean, are both you and Bob really worried about the mileage to Bowling Green?? You know that I will be there and I already have 115K on the XLR. So what's a few more miles added on!!!! Looking forward to Rendezvous II.

Henry,
Well if I had 115,000 on mine I wouldn't worry about it. I don't want to go because I loose every leg of a poker run..........I have a red face.:banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead

Bowling green trip

:party That sounds like a plan. I'm in Orlando Fl., maybe we will have a group from florida to meet up with and make the trip. For the last 6 years I've had a corvette before buying my new 06 xlr, and never make the trip. I've been looking for a reason to go, this seems like a perfect reason to me. Providing nothing unexpected happens, my wife and I look forward to it.

Ocool,
There is a gentleman named Caly from Jacksonville on this forum. Maybe he would be interested and the three of us could get together and drive up to Bowling Green. I would enjoy very much meeting with you some time. My family lives in Delray Beach, FL and I go past Orlando when I visit them. Do you ever visit Panama City Beach? BTW, attached is a photo I was testing. This is what it looks like while cruising together in Rendezvous I, in New Mexico.

Hans, this is for you

You asked for a picture of Jean's XLR in my driveway. The Escalade in the back is my wife's and the middle vehicle is Jean's Star Black XLR (before the deceased bird attacked the grill !!!) and the first vehicle is my Black Raven XLR We had a lot of fun touring around Panama City, FL
BTW Hans, exactly where was that picture taken with you and the XLR along the waterfront in Spain??
