At long last I've been able to obtain production data for both base XLR's and XLR-V's and there are some surprises among the statistics.
Total Production by Model Year:
2004 - 4,387 units
2005 - 4,190
2006 - 4,135
Of the total 4,135 for 2006, 1,147 units (28%) were V's. That's a lot more than I would have thought and significantly more than the 700-800 that's been talked about on this Forum. It helps explain why there are so many unsold V's out there and why prices have dropped so precipitously. Score another one for the GM marketing geniuses!
In terms of color, for the 2006 model year, of the 2,989 base XLR's produced, 28% (837) were Infrared, 23% (685) were Black and 20% (604) were Platinum. For the 1,147 V's, 49% (562) were Black, 26% (299) were Platinum and 25% (286) were Infrared. Again, helping explain the plethora of Black V's out there unsold (score #2).
This information comes directly from the powers that be at the Bowling Green plant so I am confident of its accuracy. I have further statistics for model years 2004 and 2005 and for the other colors in 2006 if anyone is interested.
