XLR Problems???

Hello Everybody, I live in Houston TX & I have been reading multiple posts about the challenges with the XLR from minor to MAJOR issues with this vehicle. I REALLY want to go purchase one, but I'm leaning more to a Mercedes SL500...but regardless which car I'm considering other than XLR, I would love to hear if any people out there have actually had NO PROBLEMS since purchasing, such as how long since bought, how many miles, and driving style ect. Please help me understand what I'm looking at should I go ahead with the XLR.

I have almost 10K since October. No problems. period.

Bought July 15, 2004 and have no probablems except for the heat down the center console which I understand Vette's have the same problem too.
I see more than my share of SL500's on flatbeds headed for the dealers here in Southern California. At least we drive our cars to the dealers for repairs.

No problems on my XLR, got the car since sept/04 an have a little over 10.000 km, thats over 6.2 k miles on it.
I`m a german and have the export-model and do many km`s on german autobahns. This car is here an absolutly head-turner, but a very fast one.

A friend of mine, who droves the last 15 years only SL`s switched over to an XLR and he love this car, the same as I do.

Hope I could help you a little :)

Harry

NO real prob

I coming up on a year with 4100 miles (don't live far from work).

No significant problems other than "adjustments".

Did have to have a sensor module for top replaced, but works fine now.

There was recall for rear brakeline, but that was just a check.

Definitely turns more heads than any other car on the road. Had two people come up to me within the last week at parking lot and gas station, to ask questions.

If you have an extra $30K and want something you see on the road every day, go with the MB SL500, otherwise, bank the cash and go with the XLR.

I've had my 2005 since August of 2004. I made it through the winter, so far, in Southeast Michigan with ZERO problems. I've got about 7K miles on it.
Bought mine Apr. 04, 30,000 mile and not one problem. has been a great car in ever way.:jester :flag
Hello Pyramid

Had SL600 and 500 and both had little amd what I would call major problems with suspecsion and noise. Mercedes has a lot of electrical problems too.

The XLR is smoother, quieter, gets more attention and only had a minor short in a turn signal bulb. Drive it at lease 3 days a week to work and always looking for an excuse to drive it.

Highly recommend it over the mercedes. Seems like everyone has the SL mercedes now. Now the Valet leave the XLR in front of the restaurant, where you usually would see an SL or any other model of mercedes.

Problems?

THanks for the "good car" info. All I see are posts regarding problems. As a prospective purchaser I appreciate posts concerning the LACK of problems.
Human nature

Its simple human nature to bring out problems and not compliments.

We don't sit around thinking about how nice things are (food, house, TV, movies), but let a bad one get out there and you get lots of opinions.

On the other hand, its much easier to list 1 or 2 things that went wrong, rather than the 1000-2000 things that go right, every day and every time you drive the car.

Couldn't have put it better myself.........Doc
My 2005 was delivered late November 2004 (3000 miles). Further, I have not even received any of the recent recall notices. My dealer advises that the current recall notices are for 2004 production.
Vin

And some of the recalls are "VIN specific".

Mercedes vs. XLR

I traded the Mercedes and am done with them. They are living on glories of the past. Bad service and declining quality are plaguing M-B since the Daimler-Chrysler merger.

There are no perfect cars, but the XLR is certainly ahead in value compared to the M-B. And its far more rare and unique.
Right on Avaitor. For now, I'm done with MB. Really disappointed in the overall quality of SL and s class. Everyone has different hot buttons with a cars performance and /or styling. I've been extremly happy with my XLR and won't be lookng for anything else until I'm tired of it or it embarrasses me like the Benz. Cars don't look so coll and neat with all the gadgets keep the motor and transmission from working.
Some problems here....

We bought a 2004 preowned XLR with 17,000 miles on it. The car had been serviced at the same dealership by the previous owner so we thought we were ok. The dealership has had to replace the radiator, fix a short in the drivers side headlamp, and now we have an awful noise coming from under the car. It sounds like the car is going to crack in half. I know its not our driving since we pamper this car...I've driven almost every other Cadillac available as loaner cars. Sad to say we'll probably be selling this car. I want to have faith in American Car Dealers but its very depressing. To think we traded in a perfectly good BMW (never had a problem or trip to the dealership) and now our service advisor at Sewell Cadillac in Dallas must cringe when he sees us. The last trip, the headlight went out 3 times before they kept the car for 2 weeks...Again I love the car but this has been very trying....

Greetings,

Cadillac's XLR is one of the best luxury performance roadsters on the planet. I purchased a 2005 XLR a little over a year ago and I would say it is one of the best sports cars I have ever owned. If you are considering buying a XLR, based on my experience, I would not hesitate to purchase one.

I chose the XLR over Mercedes-Benz's SL500, Maserati's Spyder, Lexus SC430, Jaguar XK(previous model, not the new XK), Porsche 911 Cabriolet and Chevrolet Corvette. Any of these cars would be welcome in my garage. But one must take first position. For my requirements the styling of XLR's exterior/interior is breathtaking. Its performance is right on and features are plentiful. But the hard top convertible became one of the key features that made my task so much easier. The final comparison came between Cadillac's XLR and Mercedes-Benz's SL500. From a style perspective the XLR won over the SL500. The XLR exterior design is exotic, with lines that exemplify a modern unique style, simply beautiful. The interior of the XLR is as contemporary as its exterior, simple elegance, again beautiful.

I must say it would be hard to consider another luxury roadster after living with the XLR. I still go out into my garage just to look at the XLR. Well, the best to you and your decision.
