I am going to throw this out to see if there is any interest. I would like to see if we could get together the largest group of XLRs. If there is sufficient interest, I would organize a get together in New Mexico for spring/early summer of next year. We have a lot of things available here for a fun time. We can have a day at a race track for those interested in driving their XLRs on a road track, we can do drives to Carlsbad Caverns, Lincoln County (home of Billy the Kid), drives to Santa Fe or Taos for genuine southwest shopping and we have great food, car museums (including the Unsers new racing museum), casinos, hot air balloons and many other things available for all ages. Let me know if there is an interest out there for something like this and I will be glad to work on organizing the event and making arrangements for special rates on hotels, etc. If there is no interest, we can forget it. Please let me know.

You sound a little bit like the chamber of Commerce running a commercial for tourisim, but being an X Albuquerquan, and granted thats somewhere in the middle of the US, sounds like a great idea, but how many XLR's are in NM, compared to other states. People would have to drive a long way, sounds like a local sourrounding state thing to me, but that's just my opinion.

Also sounds like a lot of work on your part contacting all these locations and maybe getting a police escort, camera crews from GM would be good, not to mention GM picking up the tab at Taos for a big bash at the end.

What a commercial that would be.

There's about 15 XLRs in New Mexico. I would hope that we would pull from the surrounding states that have a lot more (ie:California, Texas), but no matter where it is held, the draw would be from the surrounding area primarily. It would be some work, but it can be done. I can get police escorts, etc, but have no contact at GM. I would be able to get some good deals and hopefully some local sponsorships for some minor things. Like I said, if no one is interested, no problem. I also would work with anyone who wants to do it somewhere else.

I've got a pretty solid business relationship with David Leone (XLR Chief Engineer) he was one of many who worked on the XLR project. I would bet he could spark some interest from his division if there were enough participants.

How are we going to get Harry over here from Germany?
:) a good question Bob but it could work.

lets see, if I would buy a V (us-model) I could drive it there for a couple weeks and ship it then over. On big problem - NO WARRANTY on US-MODELS for GERMANS.

I´ll check something out, when I drove my first XLR in the US (was aug 03) I meet a wonderfull lady from GM, she is Plant Information Technology Manager in Bowling Green - she was the one let me drive the XLR for about 90 min.
So, if I could get an export-model I might do it. (Harry is a cruzy guy)

I´ll see in aug this year when I see her and when I make a first test-drive with an XLR V

What about Harry

You can always come into L. A. and stay at my place and then we can drive to New Mexico from here in my new V and Harry can drive half of the time, and play Driver and Navigator.
It would be a great way to see "The Land of Enchantment", The Grand Canyon, The Painted Desert, London Bridge in Havasu, Arizona, and lets not forget Vegas.
Lets see..............a thousand miles at 100 miles an hour would be............10 hours, if we don't stop to eat, go to the sand box, get gas, and get stopped by the police a few times.
So I guess we make it a one over night stop.

Thank you for your offer, but if, we have to stop for gas and a little eat but if we get the avg to say about 120 mph we still can do it in 10 hours. The sand box we don`t need :glol You know Bob, I have been all over the states, was already in L.A, in Vegas, many times all over Texas, New York, North Carolina - I can go on and on.
But you know what`s great, that you would let me drive your new V :yesnod

I think I can drive my first one in aug. in Bowling Green, while I´m for vacation in the US. But I let you know how this 440 hp XLR rides and goes.

Well, my friend have a nice weekend, put your top down and r i d e :flag

Harry,
It's just a car. You drive at 185 on the Autobuan, I think you can handle 85 or 90.
The top is always down here, backed in the garage and ready to go.
Good weekend

Jam,
I just talked to my dealer about this and he said he knows some pretty big brass up at the top and is going to pose the question at his next meeting with GM. "Would they be intersted in sponsoring an event at the end and taking care of the camera footage."

Something you might remember, we need another vehicle to carry luggage for everbody. How about 19 holes in Rio Rancho or Ruidoso too?
Well you have to have 19 holes..........Dah!

Thanks for some responses. I was looking at the period of 6/9/06 to 6/15/06. Here is a proposed agenda. Please email me at [email protected] and let me know what you think. Should the event be shorter? What activities or event do you want? The day at the race track would depend on the number of interested people due to the cost of rental/use of the track. I was thinking of a registration fee of about $50 which would include 2 parties. We would also have event golf shirts available on a pre-order basis (not for sale at event).

The proposed itinerary:
Sat 6/9 travel day Hotel registration and welcome party
Sun 6/10 race track (depending on cost) or golf tournament
Mon 6/11 drive to Santa Fe/Taos
Tue 6/12 park n shine Dinner
Wed 6/13 Poker run
Thu 6/14 travel to Lincoln and Carlsbad check in at hotel
Fri 6/15 Carlsbad Caverns tour Park n Shine at hotel and farewell party
Sat 6/16 travel home

Let me know what you think. Everything will based on what the attendees want to do and based on availability of locations and sponsorships.

Correction

It appears that in my earlier posting, I listed the incorrect dates. It would actually run from Sat 6/10/06 to Friday 6/16/06. Since we have already about 10 people with interest, I will check on some hotel rates, etc. With this response within only a few days, it looks like we could have a good group by next year.

Why Don't We Take Over Bowling Green, Ky

I have another suggestion;

WHY DON'T WE TAKE OVER BOWLING GREEN, KY just about the time the new models come out?? We could take the tour and see some of the new models being made and see the museum.

That way the GM Brass will be more than happy to help out at their place. They may even buy us lunch or something

ALSO, I would ask if you can take delivery of your new XLR's at Bowling Green while you are there.

You can with the Corvettes.

Regards.
