Wind Screen/Deflector

Time for another question - we had a 2000 BMW Z3 Roadster and it had a fabric (net) wind screen/deflector that fit over the roll hoops and it worked quite well (for a BMW). Does anyone know if there is a fabric/net wind screen/deflector available for the XLR? We are not interested in the plexiglass/lexon that straps to the roll hoops.
Thanks in advance

05,
We aren't really interested in the Plexiglass either, but that's all we have found to give us a little help.
Sorry

The only one I'm aware of that fits well and functions as advertised is the Windbaffle. You can say what you want about it, however the customer service alone is worth the price to me. I sent my original unit back due to some hair-line cracks that formed at two of the slots cut for the straps. I now have a brand new, thicker model that fits better than the first one and Dr. Bob also included three sets of mounting straps for me to field test for him. Once set of the original width, one set of a narrower style and one set of a new, cinch-style strap.

As soon as weather permits I will try the different straps and see which ones I like best.
Hello Marc, Standby & 05,

Just finished testing NEW clear straps . They work and look great (if you can see them).

They are perfectly clear & use clear Velcro tips like those offered with your E-Z Pass.

For those XLR's with light colored rollbars it is invisible.

Sort of a Stealth Windbaffle? Pictures to follow.

PS- Now even Ferrrari's F430 Spyder has our joined the club. It uses our clear Windblocker technology, as do all the most recent roadsters. ie SLK 350

Thanks Marc for your kind words. Enjoy the coming warmer weather.

Can't wait for XLR-V

Always refreshing to see a reply to a post -five years later.

As time marches on . . . the acrylic WindRestrictor has made it's debut to great fanfare. The Cadillac OEM mesh grill can still be found, but it's expensive enough to have been built by a government contractor. Both do a good job and it eventually comes down to how much you want to stimulate the economy and cosmetics.

Next update: 2015?

Hey CC,

I've been looking for a place to post this!

I have just finished making my own Wind Screen that velcro straps onto the roll bars and I tested it out during the last few windy days here in Southern Califorina.
I didn't spend a cent on it eather. I used aluminum window screen framing and black fiberglass window screen that I had left over from replacing some old wooden window screens on my houses.
I orginally designed it to follow the contours of the back of the XLR and mounted it behind the rool bars but it had to be installed after putting the top down and removed before putting the top back up.
I didn't like that as I would like to leave it in place so if I was out and about on a less than topless weather day and it changed to topless weather, which happens alot here in SoCal, I could put the top down while sitting at a stop light.
Well, as it turned out, putting it in front of the roll bars it even worked better as that moved it about 2 inches closer to the occupants and it dose not interfere with the top operation.
Of course, this location hides the contour that matches the rear of the XLR.
I plan on building another one but with rounded contours to match the roll bars.
I think that if one wanted to spend about $10 to $15 one could make a rectangular Wind Screen that will work as well as the $200 to $750 ones.
I think I'll make up some and sell them at R-IV next month.

See ya then, Jack

Here's a video of our brand new option for the laser engraved, illuminated windrestrictor.

Love to see some pictures of your creation Jack; there's always room for more XLR-ingenuity out there!

As a satisfied Windrestrictor owner, I can recommend their product without reservation. It works well, looks great and best of all, their customer service is fantastic. In fact, the Windrestrictor is good enough to be awarded the title of an official GM-licensed accessory, --just like the Corsa exhaust system, which I also installed last summer. It still brings a smile to my face every time I start the car and hear that V-8 rumble. And when you kick it in the ass at around 60, it sounds pretty cool too. --Definately not your grandpa's Caddy!

Mods for our beloved XLRs are far and few between, so it's nice to see something new coming out. Keep us posted and good luck with it!

OK CC, I got a new camera and took some pictures of my homebrew Wind Screen.
All I have to do now is figure out how to post them!

Jack
Let's try the first picture and see if it will post.
I own both the mesh windscreen and Windrestrictor. I prefer the mesh because I drive a lot at night and I do not get any glare at night with the mesh. Also, IMO, the mesh stops slightly more backdraft, but both work very, very well. Some people prefer the Windrestrictor because it does not block your view through the rearview mirror like the mesh. The Windrestrictor, IMO, also looks much better and more professional than any other windscreen at any price. Of course, I have not yet seen the pictures from wb6bbz's home made windscreen, so there may still be a contender for best looking windscreen. IMO, of the two, the Windrestrictor is clearly the best deal for the money. A windscreen makes the XLR much more fun to drive with the top down, and there is no better way to drive an X than with the top down.

Completely off subject:
Yesterday I was coming home from work, top down of course. Three women pull up to my left in a Camry and partially block me at a light. As they all three look at me the passenger rolls down her window and shouts, "I love your car." Then she licks her lips, throws me a kiss, and they run the light and make a left turn. I was tempted to follow, but you know.... I am just glad my wife was not in the car to see or I might have spent the night on the couch through no fault of my own.

Yes, I would be interested in seeing that as well. Although I think that even with lower supply costs, I got a great deal on my current windscreen ($100 is hard to beat when you don't have a lot of time on your hands).

Sli1:
Yes, that's why I went with Windblox. The mesh just impeded my vision way too much and I wanted something that was backed by a good guarantee (lifetime). I owned a cheaper mesh one earlier on, as I think I may have mentioned, but it did a pretty bad job compared to my Windblox windscreen.
