A cat-back system replaces your factory exhaust from the catalytic converters on back to the tip. Most are lower restriction and improve the tone. Some are just plain loud! I'm hoping the Borla unit is somewhere nearer the conservative end of the spectrum.
Sorry mswaim. I've been out of pocket for a few days.
I would like to install the Borla cat back, but when I contacted them I got no response. I understand "Corsa" and "B&B" make cat-backs, but havent figured out if they have adapted their 'vette systems to the XLR as yet.
I did see a full page Borla ad in the current Car & Driver that has a 1" sq thumbnail of an Crimson Pearl XLR with Borla Pipes sticking out the back. What are the chances that's 1_XLRs ride? Or are they finally ready?
I've also tried contacting them with negative results. Funny how when they need a test mule you can't get rid of them, soon as the project is done you can't find hide nor hair of them.................
Unfortunately we can't find a distributor who is willing to stock a reasonable number of our aftermarket XLR exhaust. As a manufacturer, we rely on our distributors to give us feedback on the viability of new products and the fact that they are unwilling to stock this part is possibly a sign that there isn't a demand for it. Accordingly, it's far too expensive to take the risk of building these cat-backs without knowing that there is a demand. We've already spent thousands on R&D and do not want to spend more until we further asses the demand.
Thanks for your interest.
Can anyone tell me how many XLR's have been sold this year?
I would like to have one, how many others would be willing to order direct? I would not think that installation would be a major concern.. A good independent muffler shop should be able to handle it..
I would suggest that all those interested in buying one let it be known here.
If Dave is not able to sell direct, there should be enough takers here to get
one of his distributors interested.
David - I'm not sure of the total number of units sold, however I believe Allen should be able to answer that one.
I for one would be willing to pay for a catback system, getting it installed is the easy part, duplicating Borla's build quality and sound is the tough part.
Come on Dave, you can do it! if you build it, we will come!! :flag
"Regarding warranty, there is a Federal statute called the Magnuson-Moss act
which clearly states that it is against federal law for a dealer to void
your warranty for adding aftermarket items such as a cat-back and header. So
this project will not affect your factory warranty in any way. "
