I have a 2004 Xlr. Top worked fine when put away for winter. Got out in spring and now trunk will not open with dash button, key FOB or putting in the bumper. You can manually lift up but hard to lift. That top won’t go down which I figured is because the trunk won’t open. Took it to 2 dealers one said he got the trunk to work and that we needed a software update. Well they didn’t fix the trunk. I took it to another dealer and they said they did the software update and it didn’t fix it and that they would have to go on a keep checking things that could get really costly. I just was convinced they knew how to do the software update. They kept trying to buy it cheap. I left. my question is could the trunk/trunk hydraulic need replace being the trunk key didn‘t open it with no help? They took the battery out so if you don’t re index the windows will that cause this problem. Please please help.

The windows are the first thing to do. A simple soft reset can work. That can be done. The involves a fully charged battety. Everything closed, windows up hood open and dont let it shut. Disconnect the battery for a while. reconnect. Index the windows, start the car then hold the top down switch. At that point you can see how far the system goes. If the trunk wont open with the pump then thats going to be the problem. the dealer with the proper scanner that know what they are doing can check all the functions in a half hour. Many dea!ers call a relearn an update.

Yes. The roof needs to be closed, latched, windows up doors shut trunk closed, hood open so it does not get latched . then you can disconnect the battery, wait a while. Start the car, index the windows. Close them then see if the console switch will open the trunk. Just make sure to hold it thru the cycle.
