I have noticed several times I come out to my car and the trunk has mysteriously opened up without having pushed the button on the fob. I know I didn't accidentally hit the button in my pocket as I didn't even have it with me, and it was about 200 feet away in an office. Does anyone know what could go bad to make the trunk randomly open??? Thanks

It could be many things, but it will most always be just One Thing.
These vehicles can have a mind of their own if the battery is low. Rule this out first.
Start with the easy stuff --the trunk lid release switch by the knee bolster --for one. It doesn't require a fob in close proximity to operate ---unlike the rear release switch. It may be sticking and intermittently making contact, aggravated by heat, who knows? I'e seen plenty of weird things while troubleshooting. Lightly tap the area around the switch to see if anything happens. . . Then tap harder.
You can disconnect the switch to see if the problem goes away too. Intermittents are a PITA to troubleshoot. Report back with more symptoms as they reveal themselves to you.

Another thought based on CC's info that the FOB is not required for the dash button to operate - is your top up or down when this happens? If it is down or the drivers window is open, someone could open the trunk by pushing the dash button, unless you have the valet lock activated.

Actually, I'm thinking of a short somewhere in maybe the switch in the trunk.

A shorted trunk switch woud pop the trunk open whenever a fob was in close proximity (1 meter) and successfully interrogated by the RCDLR. (They compare codes.) The owner states it does this when he's 200 feet away. The RCDLR could be faulty and is sending a inadvertant command to open the rear decklid. Need more symptoms.

Doesn't the valet switch stop pretty well all these from working? Try the valet switch and see if random trunk opening continues.

My 2013 ATS does it too. ALL THE TIME. It's definitely a fault or a design flaw.
