I've read about a clunking noise or vibration from the transmission while in reverse; thought that was a problem on the 04s and 05's. My '06 V with 4400 miles is doing it now, the Caddy folks say they want to drain the differential.

Is this still a common problem and should I be camped out on their doorstep Monday morning?

Don't know how common it is but it might be a good idea to get it looked at ASAP.
Does it shift and run ok otherwise?
We don't have the noise you have in reverse.....we have a shudder going uphill at around 23-25 mpg in second gear. Has anyone experienced this issue?

Probably have to get her in for service. Don't want any problems on the way to BG.:D

See ya in BG! :cheers

noise is reverse.

It's a common problem. I understand there's a bullitin out on this and is cured by changing out the differential fluid and putting in an additive. I've had it done twice now on my 06 XLR. It seems to clear it up immediately. hope it stays quiet now. It's a very easy fix that came up with the escalade and is now showing up in the XLR. Bill (ocool)

My 04 did this and they corrected it. My 06-V tries it when I back out of the garage if I'm turning, so I gently turn it and coast out and it doesn't seem to want to react as much.

I had the same problem in both my XLR and the wife's SRX. They changed out her fluid and it has mostly gone away (not always and totally). In my XLR they changed it out twice and then just rebuilt the differential.

differential fluid change

The bulletin for the rear differential fluid change for shudder/chatter condition is #07-04-20-002. This is for '04-'07 XLR including V and export. You drain the fluid and add 2 bottles of synthetic fluid part #89021677 and 2 bottles of limited slip additive part #1052358. Then drive in a figure 8 to work in the additive.

Well, update on mine....got back from BG with 29K on the car and this "chunking" issue in reverse/turning now occurs when turning and going forwards. Before I left for BG my dealer put in the fluid but it did not seem to help. It was so bad last week that the dealership ordered and replaced my complete differential. Voila! problem fixed. She runs like a champ ....for now, and I hope for a long time to come.:thumbs b

clunking

I have noticed on our 04 with now 23K mi. Since BG that when the car is hot when I am say at a light waiting and I go slightly forward a little I hear a sound that reminds me of the sound you here when you universal joints were starting to go. When I recently put the sway bar on it softend the sound but after I drive say 30 minutes or more it usually comes back. I just cant seem to narrow down where its coming from. Its on the left side or so it seems? Its hard to fix something you cannot find but only hear! Any ideas? The car goes in this Tues. for 2 new headlight buckets and service. Jim

rufcar:

That's the posi plates sticking just like a Corvette!!! That
s why the parts numbers and bulletion number in the above pposting will get you a syn fluid change and posi additive at your dealer FOR FREE!!!

IF THAT DOESN"T WORK--Then you COULD end up with a new differental too.

Regards
