I Picked up my '06 XLR in October - Love it, BUT, today is the 5th time problems with the top. Ist was a problem with the rigging that caused a chip on the roof top, fixed and repainted. Next 3 times the roof had to be reprogramed in order for the roof to go all the way down. Also new parts were installed the last time. Yesterday while in the driveway with no one around the truck opened by it'self. Today while at the car wash - you guessed it, the trunk opened and the roof started to open. Talk about wet. None of the electrical controls for the top worked. Only way to get it closed was to manually pull the carpet up and open the trap door on the driver's side of the trunk and open the "T" valve letting me put it up and then using the wrench locking same. Is now at the dealer.

Well, another reason not to take it through the car wash. I never take mine through.

There were some problems with the 04's like mine with the tops. Most seems to be defective sensors and once replaced, the tops works fine.

Never heard of remote opening though.

Having given this one some more thought, it's weird. The top won't open unless you are in park. There is no remote top opener. If in a standard car wash, the car would be in neutral, top should not be able to open in neutral.

Skip, take it to the dealer. Run, don't walk.

I see where you're going....if it could happen in neutral, it could possibly happen in drive.....that could be a whole lot more tragic than getting all wet inside.
............Might want to drive it to the dealer with the top down!

I am headed back to the dealer tomorrow for the third time with top problems on my 04. This time it won't go up. Several months ago I came out of a store and found the trunk wide open! I thought maybe I pushed the button on the FOB inadvertantly. I never use those buttons! I am now convinced it was a malfunction.

:jester AH! the gremlins are at it again. It' funny, or not so funny, how they jump from car to car. If we had Beamers, I would think they where beaming themselves from car to car.:jester :jester :jester :jester

You have an excellent point. Unless the XLR is in park, the top should not move. So, that is one malfunction. The second is that the top moved without any input. But, a button malfunction still wouldn't have been enough to setup this situation.

I guess this is a good reason not to have a remote top open feature.
