I am soliciting opinions on the OEM Michelin's that come on the XLR. I had the non run flat version of this same tire on my Acura and was less than impressed with their grip, longevity, and especially their wet performance. The only area that I thought they performed fairly well was light snow traction. Any thoughts?...

Perelli's high rated speed tire has great sticky grip when new, but when the center starts to wear, I have to feather it off the line.

Hi standby (a.k.a. Mr XLR-V),

You're playing with more performance than I can afford... Actually saw a Red XLR-V on the road today - nearly wet my Hanes... I suspect those Perelli's are a better match for a high performance car than the Grand Touring Michelin tires. My best praise of the Michelin's was the tires uniformity which translates to very smooth high speed rolling...

dug-mac, Try driving one and there will be a bigger puddle under the front seat. I caught a gear last night just right and my daughter was with me and she said it literly jumped off the ground. She owned an SS Camero and had a lot of tork, but she said she didn't believe this car had that kind of tork. Bless you GM.

BTW I'm not MR XLR-V, that's someone else, just Standby

Wow, that is a lot of torque. Maybe you should paint a flag on your car and refer to it as "General Lee". Hahahaha... I was joking about the Mr XLR-V. Actually, there is a "Mr XLR" but I'm not sure "Mr XLR-V" is taken yet...

open it up

I was coming back home today with the top down on a three hour trip. Nice divided highway. I opened it up and was impressed with the smoothness of the car in general. At 110 everything inside wanted to fly, so I had to slow down and secure everything, then I brought it back up to 125 a couple of times. I'm not one to push my luck much. I know the road pretty good and knew where I could get away with going hyper. I felt quite safe and secure.

125mph???

In Orlando you're not safe going 125MPH on a DYNO. Even though all you hear on the news is how the crime rate is up; the cops are handing out speeding tickets like mini candy bars at halloween!

Oh, and did I mention the red light cameras they want to install?

Be careful wherever you are!

More important

I recently, thru this forum, replaced all 4 wheels and tires with 800 mile "old" factory originals.

I forgot how amazingly grippy the stock stuff was! With both levels of traction control off, it's fairly hard to get the rears to break free, but It can be done with a MUCH heavier right foot than the Michelin's at 20,000 :reddevil .

I like the tires better when worn down a bit, but I do have to admit, in rain and even snow (Westchester, NY) the newer rubber grips beautifully--you'd REALLY have to push it way beyond "reasonable" (and I have a fairly high definition of reasonable for a 320hp 2 seater) with all of the traction control on, and tires under 15,000 mi to EVER break the rears loose :iagree .

BTW, the deals on this site can be amazing--I'm told that each 2004 factory wheel goes for $1,200, but I picked up 4 wheels AND 4 tires (800 miles on them) one scratch on one wheel only (MUCH better than mine) for $1,000.00 cash.:flag

I had to replace the tires because I couldn't pass inspection with my "slicks," otherwise I'd still be driving them (6 months to lease return).

I'm going shopping for a 2008 V as soon as they come out!

Really glad you've got some rubber back on that 04. Having spun out with TC off, I was worried you'd put it in a ditch.
