The passenger-front tire on my 06 XLR-V has a bulge on its sidewall... I'm assuming one of the belts broke in it or something. The car and tires have about 4,500 miles on them (ya ya, I hardly drive it...)

So today I took it to the dealer, and they want me to pay for the replacement... at $400.

When I buy new tires, I recall that such things are covered under warranty.

Are side-wall defects of the tires not covered under the standard warranty?

Anyone know? :(

Run Flats

Tire defects are a tricky thing when it comes to a warranty claim. "Road Hazards" are not covered by the warranty; tire defects are.

I think, with the very low mileage, you'd have a chance to contest the "call" by the dealership, especially if there is no external evidence of curb impact or abuse.

I'm surprised that the sidewall is bulging due to them being run-flats. I understand that the walls are extra thick to allow for the "run-flat" condition and each weight about 35 lbs each due to the extra thick sidewalls.

I've put a call in to do some more research... at the very least I'd like a reason as to why they won't cover it.

I've been doing some google searchs on my own, and it seems that pot-holes could cause the problems as well. But as you said, its a bit fuzzy.

hmmm

Michelin ZERO PRESURE tires all come with a Michelin a road hazard warranty. They will replace the tire. Look at the tire warranty that is in your owner's manual folder. Michelin will replace that tire... FREE.

The tires on my V are Pirelli's... not Michelin.

Sorry to hear that... but check your warranty booklet anyway. I had to read through mine pretty slowly to find that little gem... and I have had a tire with a sidewall bulge fixed under their warranty. The tire store called it an "impact separation" and wanted to charge me $80 to exchange it since it was barely worn. I educated them on the warranty and they thanked me very much... it seems they had been eating those tires for a long time and didn't need to. Saved them a butt-load.
