My dad has an XLR and the throttle response on it is a bit laggy. I was wondering if there is a way to fix this, since the drive-by-wire system passes all throttle controls through a computer(which can be programmed). I think the engine/trans is capable of faster performance, but it just seems restricted - you have to "floor it" to get any real oomph. Any recommendations?

Interesting you mentioned something that has been bothering me also, you have to give it to much throttle to get moving from a dead stop.

Took my XLR in for some warranty work and they gave me a DTS to drive. Thing was huge, but the throttle responese and transmission downshifts were much better. Had the dealer check the XLR and he claimed everything was in spec.

Don't know of any upgrades available, but Programmers are available for the Vette.

Yeah, I see a lot of Corvette owners complaining about throttle response too.

I've heard that the issue with reprogramming the ECU is that it may void the warranty, and on a car with so many expensive moving parts(specifically, the retractable hardtop) I wouldn't want to take that risk.

When I drove it, I didn't see any user-selectable driving modes like sport/economy/etc... are there any that I may have missed?

Completely different engines than the Corvettes, programmers won't work.

You are correct and I didn't mean to imply they were, interpersonal articulation sometimes fails me. What I meant to say was that an upgrade to the shift points, like the Vette, will have to be accomplished with an ECU programmer. I think the problem is with the leisurely shift points.

I don't know for sure, someone please chime in, but the XLR-V may have different programming than the stock XLR for shift firmness. That may be something to pursue.

This is a good link on the mechanicals of the XLR: http://media.gm.com/division/powertrain/press_kits/northstar_pdf/01_overview/northstar_overview.pdf

Also D3 makes an Engine Control Module Chip, but it may be just for the V. You could contact them and see what they have to say, they seem up to speed on the XLR electronics: http://www.d3cadillac.com/

Let us know what you find out, good luck.

I think the shift points are 'learned' from your driving style when in manumatic mode. So if you don't like the shift points, take'er out of auto and shift on your own. After a while see if you notice a difference when putting it back to plain-ol' auto.

As a follow up to the shift point issues, while I was cruising in town 30 mph part throttle I shifted from the auto mode to manual, HUD showed I was in 4 th gear. Put it back in auto, gave the car some gas and it downshifted. Drove a little further droped the speed down to 20 mph, put the transmission in manual, HUD showed 4 th gear. Transmission seems to downshift if I accelerate quickly, but just cruising at part throttle and slow speeds rpm shows up below 1500 and transmission in 4 th.

Does that seem right?

i felt the same if u check the most technical problems with XLR....they always say its normal..but i dont think soo..its somthing to do with hard shifting and problem inside the gear or computer...or even sensors..
