This is my first post as I am new to the world of XLR and have now had mine ( '04 Ebony ) for a little over a month. I wanted to tell you all how much I , as a new owner, have appreciated this site and all the information contained herein. I have learned almost everything I know about the car from this site and very little from the owner's manual... ( Never was the instruction reading type ) Anyway, I look forward to reading everyday and learning more about this amazing vehicle.

By the way, it's a little chilly here in the midwest and I recently discovered a nice trick that most of you probably know ( some may not ) That is, that you can start the vehicle ( to warm up in the morning ) and without the keyfob in your pocket, the doors lock and will not open until you re-approach the vehicle. We historically have several cars stolen every year in the early morning hours with keys in the ignition. Just another bonus that Cadillac threw our way...

Anyway, thanks to all...

Passenger

The one thing to remember is, if you leave a passenger in the car with the engine running and you walk away - they are stuck. At least, they can't use the button exit. They have to pull the manual release down on the floor (which passengers don't usually know about).

If I do this, I remind the passenger that they will not be able to get out while I'm gone.

It is nice not having the key in the car when it is running, though.

I haven't tried it but can't they just hit the unlock button from the inside?? I know that every time I try to drop someone off without placing the vehicle in park i have to hit the unlock button... I'll check that out tomorrow... I never take the fob out of pocket and I find the best feature of the vehicle is that it "recognizes" me and unlocks the doors... Not sure why they bothered with the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter!! It is quite a convenience to leave the vehicle idling while running in a store in the cold...

Off subject, has anyone had trouble with the trunk lining coming loose near the hinge mechanisms inside the trunk??? I have one side that bends inward every time the trunk is closed. It is obviously from the mechanism scraping against the lining.

i also have the brake squeal problem....

Tried the " chicken " trick with the cruise control and was quite impressed...

I also think the Camaro tail pipes should be standard issue on the xlr... Looks like the engineers should have taken some lessons from this site.

If the passewnder is inside with the car running or not, and one of the fobs is not in the car, the unlock button, nor the door button will work.

They have to use the manual open lever.

Not had any problem with trunk linig, and don't recall anyone else mentioning it in the forum.

Brake squeal has had several threads and has a servuice bulletin out to replace pads and rotors (mine just started the squeal at 3200 miles).
