Engine starts just fine, but the shifter won't move out of PARK. Button won't depress. What's up with that? Am going to cross post this to the tech list also.

Perhaps a dumb question, is the transmission up against a load, ie, tire blocked up against a tire stop, or parked on an incline/decline?

No, it's stupidity.
You have to apply the brake for it to release. I'm embarrased to admit this brain fart, but maybe it's a good catharsis.
