Hello, I'm looking at buying a XLR. I've been huge into the Corvettes. Has anyone put a SC or turbo on one yet? I have been looking at the XLR-V's but I haven't seen one at auction yet and for what they are going for I can buy a XLR and put together a SC system for less and have more power.

yea!...........We all wanted to do that about 2 years ago with our o4's but would kill the warranty, so we all waited hoping for a XLR-V at about $85k, but not very many have wanted to pay out 110k plus. I myself just took possession of an XLR-V and waited 13 months for it. You may be able to make it go faster with your knowledge, but I'm not afraid of anything that pulls up along side me at the light. If anyone beats me it won't be by much. I won't have to slouch down in the seat. I should charge for a test drive and everyone would want one. It's extremely quick off the line.
Bob:cheers

You can look back at in this forum and read about all of this as it was discussed in detial a year or so ago. The short story is that Cadillac will not release the EMC codes that you would need to re-program the EMC to take advantage of a SC or turbo. There are companies that have put SC and Turbos on NorthStar engines. However, they were done with a custom EMC that they designed from the ground up. Also, this was not done in a production car. It was for a off-road dune buggy. So, it would not be hard to bolt on a SC or Turbo. It could be done and developed into a kit. However, the EMC is what prevents it. Some of the super tuners and chip companies have tried to re-map the EMC without any luck. So, for know if you want to SC your XLR, you have to buy a V

The cars I get I don't have to worry about voiding any warranty. I've been buying cars the last 6 years from dealer auctions. I find cars that have been salvaged, wrecked, flood, or theft. So the car don't come with any warranty. I've done 2 Cadys so car this last year and was thinking about keeping one for my self. I've had 4 C5 corvettes, and one 98 Viper GTS. The corvettes are alot nicer than the vipers. I still have my 00 corvette.

00 Corvette
ARE Stage 2 Heads 11:1CR Int [email protected] [email protected] Ext [email protected] [email protected]
LG G5X3 Cam
LS6 Intake
Meziere Electric Water Pump
ASP Underdrive Pulley
Ulf Engineering Ported TB
Howe Racing Long Tube Headers 3” Collector
Borla XR-1 Exhaust No CATS
Vararam Air Intake
ARE Ported Oil Pump
Comp R Lifters
Spec III Clutch / Billet Steel Flywheel

The car was dyno turned and put down 422 RWHP and 420 RWTQ. That would be 500 HP and TQ at the flywheel. The corvettes have a weight of 3400 lbs

It is fast as hell, but to many people have corvettes, so I want to get something not to many people have. I love the XLR.

I have to make a few phone calls to some tuners to find out what they can do, and if I can put a corvette motor in one.

After all the mods my car gets 32 miles/gal on HWY and 26 miles/gal in town

What do you guys get?

SC or turbo's on a corvette (or any small block chevy) are easy because the EMC can easily be remapped. It is a whole different game with the Northstar. YOu can do it with the CTS V, but that is basically a corvette engine and EMC. No one, (other than factory sponsored show cars or race cars) has been able to sucessfully crack the EMC on a Northstar. I lot have tried without success.

I know but, over the years on the corvette forum, going to corvette shows, and drag meets. I’ve made a few friends at several shops. A few of them are do cutting edge for concept and design. I’ve been told that tuning programmer is being looked at but is not ready for testing yet. Second a new fully programmable ECM with a cost of $2500 is in the works also. When you race compacts you have to buy a new ECM to program them also. The new ECM are very nice, you can plug it in to your lab top and play with the settings all day long.

I’m more pushing for Jim to let me know if I can just pull the motor out and put the new LS7 in it or a LS2. He is checking on what it will take to make it happen. He just happens to have a XLR-V in the shop to look at.

It would be easy to build a LS2 to 450-500 RWHP and have it done for less than 10K

I doing my research, I also found a lot of shops saying that they were working the EMC and would have it cracked shortyly. But, that was 2 years ago and to date no one has. Some have gotten close, but they all seem to fall short. There is some technical detial that is causing a problem that no one has figured out how to get around. The problem with an engine swap is going to be the trans. The standard one in the XLR is not setup for all the low end torque of the LS7. I think you will be very disappointed unless you also change the trans. Lastly, where are you going to get a LS7 engine? Finding a totaled car at this stage will be tough. Buy a new one from GM is going to cost a lot more than 10K.

The LS7 are running around $12K to $13K at this point still more than I want to spend for a 500hp and 475 lb-ft torque. I have that out of my 346 CI. I would build a motor to put in. I have to find out what it will take to put the LS2 in the car and then I will worry about getting a T56 in it.
