Have an '04 w/ approx. 20k - and began to feel noticable "grab" in the brake when coming to a complete stop. Just got a call from the dealer saying that rotors were displaying slight warping (pads are in excellent shape per Svc Rep) - and that they were rotating rotors to fix problem. Car has largely been lightly driven. Has anyone experienced this - am a bit concerned that this is happening at 20k miles given the brake / performance specs of the XLR....

Any input would be appreciated. Thx

I've heard of this before, but not with the XLR. I've been told that if the rotors are hot (like after a lot of high speed highway driving) and then they are doused with water (like going through a deep puddle or maybe even washing the car before it cools down) this could cause some warpage. I'm a bit skeptical myself, but this is what I've heard. Another thing that I've heard is that the rotors can develop a "glaze" and this can create a warpage-like effect. Hope this helps and good luck.................... Doug

I had a Lincoln that did this every 5-10,000 miles. It was really more of a glaze like Dug-Mac describes. Turning the rotors always fixed it. No problems with the XLR at 23,000 miles. That Lincoln was the only car I've ever had the problem with so I don't think it was driving style related.

warping has not been brought up on this forum before, but there were many problems with early models with squeeky brakes starting around 5000 miles. (glazed rotors) Many had front rotors replaced under warranty.

Don't you hear that squeek?;)

Just had my two front wheels off in the garage to paint the edges of the rotors silver so that rusty look doesn't appear in the chrome on the wheels and got the chance to polish the wheels inside and out. MY 06 V has bigger and thicker rotors and they where in great shape with 10,000 miles on them. Yea, I did use engine paint. Took the excess overspray off the rotors with fine steel wool. I just didn't want to take a chance getting that paint on my pads.

Appreciate all the input. Just got the car back after they rotated the rotors, and still getting a fore / aft shimmy in the car when coming to a complete stop (though much less noticable)... there is no noise associated with this.

Have another call back to the dealer....

I've never heard of rotating the rotors, but maybe that's why they call them rotors. Seriously, they need to be cut to stop that push back on the brake.
