Well, imagine my surprise when the dealer told me that i still have ver. 3 for a nav disk ....:crazy if i recall, didn't someone on this site have a later/latest version for sale? and, it's not a covered benefit under the warranty.... is that right? does anyone still have a later version?

When talking about cars it's sometimes hard to remember what year car you have. I know for sure that if you have a 06-V or higher, you get a new disc every year for 3 years for FREE.
Some people decided to sell their old version, where as I gladly packaged mine up and sent it priority mail to someone clear across the country. I didn't think $50 or $100 bucks was that important, and I'm not rich.

OK, when I come back from BG I will be close to a new disc. If you don't acquire one by that time, and I get my second disc...................it's yours for a ride up the 5 and a cup of coffee on San CLemente pier.

New News!

Because we have just lately decided to go on the BG trip .... we wanted to upgrade our Ver 3 Nav disk ..... so, today, I called Cadillac customer service to buy it .... and here is what I was told: If we had purchased the car last year, (Lola is an '04) all I needed to do was fax them a copy of the BOS and Cadillac would send me the latest version free since the car was sold as "Certified" ... that is the good part ... ;) the sort of other piece, which is my fault for waiting so long to request this is .... it will take approx 9 business days to get here and they cannot expedite that ... so we are really just at the edge of getting it on time since we will leave on Sunday for BG .... But I think that is pretty good news for all of you out there who wanted upgrades on your Nav and wondered if you were entitled...

Ruth, Tomorrow my wife will have her Seville at the dealer for key and lock issues. She is supposed to receive an answer from the parts dept. if our Preminum care package we paid for recently on our 04 will give us the free upgrade Nav disc. He, the parts man said yes but will have a clear answer for me tomorrow. There seems to be some differences too in the extended warranty , the Preminum care one and the GMPP which is really different
The 04 Nave that you have should not be a problem since your mostly taking major roads. Just keep current maps handy if you need to recalculate around an problem area.
My problem is that a new nav disc costs almost as much as a new Garmon that I can take any where! Jim

I see where you are coming from. I only know about our car which was "Certified" when we bought it .... and that is what Cad CC spoke to me about - I did not get any information on waranty packages.
Yep, and I am bringing my laptop with me to navigate in the nether regions of our trip home ... What would we do without Google???

Ruth I was just in the UK for 5 days recently and drove about 800 mi with right drive and left shift and if my friend did not have his new Garmon with the European chip wed still be driving around the dam airport. After 2 days of her we gave her a name "Bitch" the most common word from her mouth after navagating all those roundabouts were"Recalculating" and"Make a U turn here" ya right here in the middle of M-I sure I will! Im so glad the xlr voice never says that word! or she'd be "Bitch II"

Lola's mom:

I just went thru this myself. Here's the deal you can have a new copy for free if you will send them your sales invoice which needs to show that the car is "Cadillac Certified" It can be faxed to them if you wil go up on the Nav Disk site and get the customer contact phone number. The disk will show up in about 3-4 weeks.

DON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!!! Kinda like the other subject we were corresponding about. Just crawl up the organization and you will get the right person and a disk..

Regards

Ya'll are good. I had no such luck. I started with the Dealership; got no where.

I tried every avenue to get an upgrade and all I got was "up yours." I wrote several Customer Service" requests and never got anywhere. All I got was apologies and "can't do it."

I even hit-up a GM Representative while touring the Vette Museum (lady waiting in the Vette "Nursery" for the new owner) a few weeks ago and got a promise that they'd do what they could. Not a peep.

If anyone could give me a phone number to call, I'll give it another try. This is definitely a sore spot with me and Cadillac.

Okey-doke ... here you go.
Criteria ... bought the car last year? Nov/Dec? If yes, is the car "certified?" Again, if yes ... fax your BOS (bill of sale) with a cover letter stating that you are requesting your nav disk update. Fax to 313-957-5222 ..... I put "Attn: Reggie" on my cover letter as that is who I talked to. He was at 1-877-628-3472.
Good Luck ... I think this will work for you ....

Something has me very confused concerning all this warranty talk. Aren't we all talking about fairly new cars here? If that's the case isn't the original new car warranty transferable automatically? Why all this talk about certification?

warranty

Floyd, My 04 car was just purchased about 6 weeks ago from the 2nd owner a Buick dealer. He bought it from GM at Manheim auction as a GM buy back. I called the # on MY XLR's site and spoke to a women there who said If I sent the $50 registration fee I could get the premium care package. The dealer gave me a GM PP as part of the sale. i could not get a certified car from the Buick dearl. But I was still able to get the Premium care package and that even allows for free once a yr or (12k mi I think) whatever comes 1st ,oil change all air filters and full service. My factory warranty runs until 3/08 so does the prem package. jim

Jim, thanks for attempting to clear up this warranty confusion. I still have a problem with the reason (for any reason) the ORIGINAL factory warranty can't be called on for ANYTHING that is originally covered by it. I am under the impression the ORIGINAL warranty is totally transferable to subsequent buyers. I may have missed something in the translation--I'm going to call my dealer today to see if he is able to clear up this confusion. :banghead

warranty

Floyd, I was told by GM that each new owner must re-register the car! So if the previous owner did not you cant extend the original. Thats Y right now on my 04 I still have the original until 3/08 but I was not able to extend it. Hence the GMPP. I figure thats like any health ins. plan. The warranty is there for the big items. Not the usual service ones and Im ok with that. jim

Here's the deal on the NAV Disks and Warranty's (as I understand it from TONS of personal research)

Original owners of 2005 and 2005 XLR's still under the 4 year factory warranty (or not) will have to pay for a NAV Disk upgrade.

2nd owners of 2004-2005 XLR's MAY have bought them at a Cadillac dealer where they were "Cadillac Certified" for 100k miles and essentially have the same warranty as the 2006's and 2007 XLR's and XLR-V's. IF SO, then you are entitled to 1 Nav Disk upgrade.

2006-2007 Original Owners and 2nd Owners are entitled to 3 free upgrades which as I understand come automatically to the registered owner. After 3 freebies, you pay for subsequent upgrades. Unless you 2nd owner car gets "Cadillac Certified" which will allow for 1 "freebee".

2008 owners will EITHER get 1 free upgrade OR access to a GM via the dealer where it will be downloaded to the car. ( I understand this may be the NEW WAY for NAV DISK Upgrades in the future.

IF YOU BOUGHT YOU CAR ANYWHERE ELSE (2nd car owners and it hasn't been Cadillac Cerified" then oyu must pay for the upgrade!!!

We can clarify all of this at BG with "The Big Guys"

I hope this helps clarify the confusion.
