I'm experiencing an issue regarding an engine stall when I restart my '06 XLR. Usually, this occurs after sitting about 1.5 hours (like taking a long lunch). The engine turns over, but the RPM seems very low and it usually stalls in less than a second. Occasionally, it may run "rough" for a second or two ... Then stall. After shutting off the switch, it usually starts the second time without a problem. The dealer checked for codes (none) and has "reprogrammed" the idle.

Via a search, I am aware of other stalling problems ... But hey seemed to be while the XLR was running. Has anyone else experienced this stalling issue (a restart after sitting approx 1.5 hours) ... Any suggestions?

Thanx

That sounds a little like an air mass sensor problem... are you running a K&N style air filter? A heavy re-oiling on those will often cause AMS problems.

Thanx for the feedback ... It is very much appreciated! Since I'm not very knowledgeable regarding many of the aspects you mention, I have a couple additional questions where I need education.

Indeed, I am using a K&N air filter (since April & only factory oiled) ... But why wouldn't it cause any other starting problems outside the 1.5 hour delay? And why will the XLR immediately start on the second try?

If there was a fuel problem (vapor lock), would the second attempt at starting be any different? If the crank trigger was malfunctioning, how might it relate to the 1.5 hour delay in restarting?

I'm perplexed with the 1.5 hour restart delay (a situation I seldom encounter, so that makes duplicating the condition worse). I thought fuel or temp sender at first, but I would have thought both would be the same on the immediate second restart try ... Is that incorrect?

Regarding the MAF sensor ... Is that something that can be easily cleaned or would it need replacing?

Thanx for your help,

Just a guess on the MAF... could be heat after sitting makes the oil a little more available or something... I have a K&N on my Vette and keep it clean by frequent applications of WOT. In other words, I haven't personally had a problem. There is also an air temp sensor in the intake that could just be defective. Seems like it would also cause some start-up/rough running problems too.
