I took my 05 xlr in this am for the recall work on the headlamps and was told that when the car was put up on the ramp the radiator started to leak; said the brackets that hold it in place look like they had been dislodged, perhaps by hitting a curb stop or something---he mentioned they were flimsey brackets to start with; anyway, new braces/brackets were ordered today and the radiator is being sent to a radiator shop to be checked, since the leak source was not visible to the tech. The radiator had not been leaking prior to being put on the rack. I noted somebody on a previous thread mentioned a radiator leak problem and I need some input and advice from anyone out there who has had to deal with a similar problem. I have a great relationship with my dealer, and they will try and help me with this repair if they can. How bout some iput gang.....

My "low coolant" light kept coming on but the coolant reservoir was full. The dealer's mechanic kept it on the rack and finally decided it was a leaking water pump and replaced it. After a month the light started to come on again. Now i pour coolant in almost to the brim and the ligt goes of. It's going in later this week for 40,000 mile service. Maybe they can find another source of loss.

Radiator leak

Let me say, being a technician long before I stepped into sales, a radiator can develope a leak in many various locations. One sure way is to have it hit something, overheating or a split or cracked fitting or seam.

Some, very few XLRs had radiators that developed a leak near the bottom of the radiator where the side tank meets the core. There have been a few of these that exhibited a leak after the vehicle sat and cooled down in some cases more than a day. When the system was hot no leak was found.

The above are only a few examples, I hope it helps.

I've added coolant to ours ... oh maybe 3 or 4 times since we owned it. I've never added any to the Vette with 20K more miles. I assume there is a tiny leak somewhere, but can find no evidence other than the fluid consumption.

coolant leak

my '04 had the "low coolant" issue as well and often when i shut the car off i could hear some liquid dripping on the exhaust manifold and turning to steam. Naturally, i assumed that this was the cause of the low coolant situation so i notified the dealer of my experience when i took it in for repair. i was suprised when they informed me that my radiator had a tiny leak in it and that they replaced it with an entirely new radiator. i couldn't figure out how a pinhole leak int the radiator would cause that sizzling noise coming from the back of the engine. Well i put all this off until recently i started hearing the sizzle demon return and sure enough some miles later the " low coolant " light is back on my DIC. I have not returned the vehicle in for this issue yet but hope that somewhere out there is the answer... BTW, it has been a year since i had this corrected the first time.
