I wired in my radar detector over the week-end. I used the wire-harness that goes to the mirror. It has a clip on the top of the plug to hold it in, and once unplugged there is enough slack to unwrap and splice in there.

I found wires from pins 8 and 13 (suggestion on another forum) as ground and hot-on-run respectivly (black and black/red) and found a small flat-fuse holder that could be wrapped back into the harness. Spliced in, wrapped up and plugged up and now it comes on when the car starts.

Just ordered the Escort ZR3

I'm paying the closest Esort authorized installer to put the system in to block laser (they just got laser near my house--they nailed me on 684 north in Bedford NY).
:nopity :cry

I already had the $330.00 Passport 8500 ($30.00 extra for blue, just to match my Xenon Blue paint :) so now it'll be another $600.00 installed for the laser jammer.

I've seen it for $500.00 installed on the web, but they charge more for "difficult installations". I've never heard of a wiring job on ANY car that was not "DIFFICULT"!
:nodno

So, for $930.00 total investment, w/installation (plus tax) I will have bumped up my protection to meet law enforcement's bumped up technology. Considering that the minimum speeding ticket in NY is about $125.00 plus $250/yr to the insurance company, you just about break even if you avoid 1 ticket. Not to mention the excellent feeling when you jam the cop, slow down, turn off the jammer, and he gets a 62mph reading instead of 82.
:reddevil

The 8500's saved me MANY times, however, its laser detection is too late to help you slow down more than an mph or two b4 you are nailed!

Anyone know if the jammer mods will be a big deal when returning the car at the end of the lease or if these systems can be transferred economically to another car?

It is along time since the first post on this, but the dealer putme into a k40 and it has been great so far at keeping me awake on long trips. I am too much of a geezer to realy let her rip very often.

radar detector

I've got the SR7 installed and it works great. No tix, not even a stop since I put it in. had it installed at Tweeters.
You can't see the interior unit from behind or in front, as it's mounted on the windshield header and it's tucked behind the darkened top of the windshield.
It's great.
