Have any of u thought of having a detector installed--I find it to easy to speed with the XLR. If so what would anyone recommend? So far the best suggested has been the K40 with a Laser defuser & concealed display

Buy the Valentine Research V-1. It is simply the best radar/laser detector-locator on the planet.

http://www.valentine1.com/

I have had mine for more than a year and it has found every speed trap, trooper running radar and laser I have come across and has given me plenty of warning.

I haven't gotten "fanged" yet with it and I really like to go fast in my 2002 DTS.

Zeromister,

I am chief engineer at one of only 9 full time classical Jazz stations left in the US, KUVO 89.3 (www.kuvo.org) so I have a tendency to listen to my station when driving (to make sure we are still on the air!).

XM is really cool and if I didn't have the worlds best Jazz station to listen to I would be using it.

Thanks for the post!

Radar Detector in VA

I live in Virginia and drive quite a bit in DC, where Radar Detectors are illegal.

Anyone know if they make remote mounted radar detectors anymore?

the front and rear units r completely hidden and the warning lights maybe installed directly on to the dash board

Of course you could move to a state that has 75 MPH speed limits and isn't a communist dictatorship when it comes to radar detectors...

Passport SR1

I have a Passport SR1 that I would like to install. The newest one is the SR7 I think but has anyone put one of these on the car yet?
I was looking a mounting the front detector behind the plastic cover on the passenger side in the lower grill. It looks like on the right side is where they mounted the Adaptive cruise system so I don't think that would be a good place.
Anyone got any ideas??

Does anyone know that what frequency the ACC system works on?
I am still looking at putting a remote laser/radar system on my car but if the cruise system is operating with in the same frequencies then it will make the detector go off all the time.

Also it looks like the ACC is mounted on the drivers side ONLY behind the plastic shield. I don't see anything on the passangers side OR am I missing something?

The ACC frequency is not in the same range as the regular police radar frequencies.
It will not cause your radar/laser detector to go off all the time.
You are correct. The ACC is located on the driver side only.

FYI,

X : 8 -12 GHz
K : 18 - 27 GHz
Ka: 27 - 40 GHz

ACC : 76.5 GHz

Thanks WZLR for the update. I will start looking on how I can mount it on the passenger side in the grill.

Passport SRX

Well it only took a total of about 5-6 hours to install the Passport SRX Radar/Laser/Shifter detector my XLR.
I went out a got the newest one from Passport. Its the SRX, it has radar, laser and shifter all in one system. It took some time trying to find where to mount the three sensor on the front of the car and running the wire for the ONE from the rear will take a lot more...
I found that the [laser/shifers] would mount behind the plastic covers in the lower grill but I had to cut a slot in them so that they could "see" out. The [radar] sensor I put behind the plastic cover on the passenger side. It does not have to have a hole to work. The rear sensor is mounted to the lic. plate. I may have to work on this one a little because if you mount it right side up in the upper lic. plate mounting holes it is to close to the opening where you press the button to open the trunk. If you mount it upside down "for it to work it does not make a difference up or down" it hangs down and covers the place where the state "TEXAS" is written. There are no holes in the bottom to mount it to and I did not make any at this time. I may leave it this way and see if the police say anything to me. Also I am going to talk to Passport and see if they know of some other mount I can use.
I want to install the mute button on the console but I can not find a way to get the top off it to hide the wire so for now I will not use it.
My wife and I went on a 400 mile test run and it worked great "even better then my SR1".
I took some photos if anyone want some. I would post some here but I am not sure how to do it. So just ask and I will send you some.

Escort Solo

Anyone have experience with the cordless Escort Solo S2?

In VA and DC, radar detector are "technically" illegal, so quickly being able to dispose of the evidence isa good capability.

Cordless radar detector is a nice idea. You will like it for the first couple months.
Eventually, you will be tired of changing the batteries all the time.
Just my $0.02

Batteries

Changing batteries are a bit easier than trying to hide the cord, if you get stopeed in one of these jurisdictions. They will ticket you for having a detector, unless it is locked away.

So much for our Nations capital and otherwise reaonsable Commonwealth of Virginia.

Just don't know whether I need to go the route of custom installed unit for $1500.

I got my SRX off ebay for about $650.00 new in the box so if you have the time and can work with some tools its not bad. Takes a lot of time but not that bad...

Please excuse me if this has been posted before... couldn't find it. In my Corvette there is an empty wiring pigtail from the toeboard fuse box: one switched one not and a ground. The XLR dosen't have that convenience (maybe not the C6 either... don't know).

I want to wire my radar detector to a switched circuit. Anyone have a diagram or advice where best to splice in?

Thanks!

If you want to hard wire your detector, just find one of the fuses that shut down when you open the door and leave, grab anything for a ground and your detector will go on when you start you vehicle. Your wire coming from the detector can be hidden along the glass and down the passenger side to the fuse box. I wouldn't even think of getting in my car and trying to remember to plug my unit in. Always covered from garage to garage.
I'm not cheap so there is my $0.05 cents
cheers
