I have a V1 in my XLR-V... and Escort 8500's in my two other cars.
I wish that you could find all features from the V1 and Escort 8500 together in one package.
The V1 err's on the side of "giving you too much information, so you can figure out what to do with it." Which is great if you really want to think about radar and cops, etc...
The Escort is more of a set and forget unit... if it beeps, just slow down... but it may or may not be giving you all the information since it appears to do more filtering etc.
So when i'm going 100mph on the highway for a short burst, I'm glad I have the V1 (better range, more info as to where the radar is coming from, etc...)... but I find it really hard to use, and difficult to interpret most of the time.
But for day-to-day driving, I much prefer the Escort... the auto-mute alone makes it such of a less annoying device to have. And the bright-blue display option is much easier to read in the bright sun.
So if you're a "power user" - definitely V1. If you're more of a set-and-forget guy - go for the Escort. Regardless which you choose, their both perfectly great units - you can't go wrong with either.
Personally? If I had to do it all over again, and now that I've experienced the V1, I'd probably just buy the Escort.
