Purchase?

I have been looking at a satin nickel 2005 XLR at the local Cadillac dealership - being in a small town, they only get in one a year or so. It is an excellent dealer.

I am comtemplating buying it, but don't want the hassle of something always breaking down. Seems like the retractable hardtop especially has its share of problems. This would be my only car.

Am I being overly concerned. Any advice?

Hi JMARC,

see, I´m here in germany and bought a XLR and with every day longer I got this beauty I love it more. I use to drive my cars hard, as you know we don`t have no speed-limit on autobahns and it`s a super-car. I`ve had no problems on my XLR, it runs and runs :thumbs
So, if I had to make a decision I would buy this satin-nickel beauty :yesnod

To look at one at a dealer-ship or to drive and own one is a big difference, you will often get a great smile on your face - believe me!!!! :D

That`s what I can say

Hans

Love our XLR. Had not significant problems in the 19+ months we've had ours. In fact, have not taken it back to the dealer yet for any service.

If you can, I'd recommend going to a large city dealer nearby, just to check out other colors before you buy. Your local dealer can always do a dealer exchange if you like another color better and prefer to do business with them.

The only other thing I can think of is that if your local dealer only gets one XLR a year, their service staff can't be as experienced as a big-city dealer's. But convenience is everything...
Forum

Yes, love my XLR too. Had it a year and still get comments and stares.

Make sure to reference this forum, if you do have issues. Lots of collective experience and information, espeically from Allen - Mr. XLR.
One of the finest vehicles I have ever had; not only did i trade in a Mercedes 500SL (and never looked back) but the "bells and whistles" on this car, the looks I get almost every day, and the sheer pleasure and pride of driving it continue to assure me I made the right decision.

Recently purchased a 2005 XLR, wooooonderful!!!! Before I purchsed, I reviewed the MB SL500 and Lexus SC 430 and they are nice cars as well but there is something very special about the XLR. Can say enough wonderful things about this. Go for if you have not already done so. Remeber GM just announce Employee DIscounts on it cars until July 5. Enjoy.
Great car

I have never owned a car that attracts such attention. I agree that if the color is not what you want, go to a big city dealer. You will spend enough dinero on this car to merit getting EXACTLY what you want. Don't compromise for the dealer's convenience.

You might want to peruse the forum and check out all the wheels posts. The car comes with 18s, but the 19s look so much better. Other things to consider are new exhaust resources, and Dr. Bob's Windbaffle.

There's lots of help here on the forum for solutions to problems your dealer will not have seen.

Good luck, and send us a photo.
