I just purchased my XLR and I love it. But it just does not have the power I am looking for. Now I know I can upgrade to the new XLR-V but it will take me a year to get one here in Florida (and I am on a wait list) but there must be something I can do now to enjoy a bit more power. I do not want to do something drastic that is going to void all warrenty but wanted to see what people have done out there that has helped.

Thank you,

Rod

Outside of working with a tuner to change the programming, almost anything you do is going to bring warrenty into debate. I know a lot of Chevy dealers are pretty good about working with the Vette crowd... unless something obviously caused a problem most will take care of other issues.

Short of doing some internal work (heads, cam, valves...etc) the quickest way would be to supercharge (or trade to a Corvette engine from 320 to 400HP). A blower will get you another 100-120 with no real problems.

If you go with a roots type, you will invest in a new hood to make room for it. If you go with a centrifical type you should be able to tuck it in... either route is about $8K on a Corvette. I don't know who makes one for the Northstar but a little work in Google should find you some clues.

Good luck and keep us informed!:lurk

RP & Caly,
Good advise, Caly.
I was dissapointed in the low end performance and was looking to drop in a SC but when I found out how Cadillac treats playing with their baby as far as warrenty, I did it the easy way and ordered the V in Crimson Pearl. I'll just keep my XLR under control until about Christmas.
Won't that be a nice Christmas present?

rpatane,

Another suggestion that would be about $2,000 would be to get the Vette 6 speed gears and dump the high gears they put in the XLR's. Chevelet said they would fit. I forget what ratio they where, but it was around 2.64's and the others are 3.70 something. That's quite a kick at a light, not to mention up to 120. Again, your probably flirting with warrenty problems.

No one knows of any quick fixes like a chip for the computer and a new exhaust system?? Those normally would get me 35-50 HP (enough until the V shows up). I had a 2003 ZO6 and there really is not anything like it on the road. I know this will not be that car but a little more might get me through the year.

Any thoughts???

If you go with headers & exhaust you might kick it up a notch. Still would find somebody good with a tuning computer... the equivalent of a chip because its all in firmwear. They could also firm up the transmission too. That nice soft Cady ride actually hides how quick the car actually is. A harder shift would give you that nice seat-feel you are probably missing. I firmed up the shif in my car that way (Vette), but the wife wouldn't like that in her XLR.

Rpatane,
I guess everyone took the weekend off and I'm hanging around the cave so I'll step up to the plate.
NO chip, there's a code and no one as managed to get it yet.
Exhaust? your guess is as good as mine.
There are many threads here that deal with all your questions and MORE, such as a code to let your companion watch the DVD on long trips.
Your fairly new at this and we have been over almost every idea someone can come up with. You just have to dive into the older threads.

Why not take my suggestion about changing rear ends. I think that will keep you happy until the 06 gets here

Since you live in Florida do you know of anyone or any company that I can contact about tuning the software. Here in Tampa I always had Reeves Motorsports tune the computers on my BMW's and Porsche's but they do not handle Cadillac's.

Let me know.

Thank you,

Rod

I'll ask around. I know there are some good people in the Tampa area for Vettes and some of them may be able to do it since the two cars share so much...

Troy, you have any suggestions... maybe vendors on CF?
