The Onstar Diagnostics isn't set up to work with the 2004 XLRs. Just the 2005 models. It is neat, though.

fwiw, it worked fine for my 2004 -- I called a rep using the blue button, though. Got the first email back the next day, so don't wait "4-6 weeks"

Onstar don`t work in Europe we don`t even have the Onstar-button on the mirror. I have it on my DTS because it`s the US-model but doesn`t work, same with the garage-door-opener.
What color you get your Z06?

On star doesn't work in Europe because they do not monitor that part of the world but the reason homelink is not present is because the radio fequency that it uses is approved by the FCC and in Europe they do not control the airwaves. So GM can not offer a product emmitting radio waves on a frequency they do not have authority to do so.

On Star told me would work on 2004 and newer, at least for XLR and Escalade. Don't know about other GM models

I just read on Onstar.com that the 2004 XLR has to be delivered after 4-21-04 before a diagnostic report can be run. Makes sense. Mine was delivered in December, 2003.

Funny my 2004 was delivered 06/04 so it was after the date but yet I do not have the newer version of onstar- version 6 because It is not fully digital where you can link your verizon cell phone to your car phone as 2005's can!

If you have the newest gen 6 on star and if you have Verizon, family plan you can add your car to the plan and share the minutes and receive a better rate than buying minutes from on star. Check out the verizon wireless web site.

As most of you know, the Neiman Marcus XLRs were produced before the production models. I just received my third (at least) OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics report via e-mail. This dispells and confusion as to which XLRs are compatible. If I'm compatible, all XLRs must be.

The way to tell the version Onstar is easy. Either by using hands free and enter a number to be dialed. If you can go only one number at a time you have generation 5 if you can enter the entire phone number you have generation 6. Or you can contact onstart from your phone and they can tell you.
