should the oil pressure fluctuate much while driving? it seems that when accelerating the OP reading will go up to around 70. and then you let off the gas it goes back to around 40. whats the norm here???

That has been a point of minor debate for some time. On really warm days mine will drop below 10 lbs at an idle, however it jumps back up once rpm's begin to climb. The drop-off is matched to engine temps, lower the temp, the higher the sustained oil pressure, vice-versa.

The Service manual states Idle pressure of 5 PSI is the low rail.

I've seen and reported mine in traffic on a hot day, oil pressure at idle around 5-6 psi and engine temp way past 220.
