Oil Consumption????????

Hi there,

as some of you know I´m a german and own a wonderful XLR here. I observed on my car on the first 3000 km (1800) miles a half quart of oil consumption but now with three times as much on, the oil-use is alomost gone.

I must say one thing, I usually, after the brake in period for the first 1000 km (600 miles) drive my car on the autobahn very fast. That means I don`t have the rpm`s as I drive usually in the US, in the 1500 to 2500 range - no, here I have it in the 3000 to 6500 range.

How is it on your XLR`s ? BTW, my DTS uses about 2000 miles/one quart and this was from new on. On many, mostly almost new De Villes rental-cars, which I drove in the US for maybe 3000 to 4000 miles, each, the cars had no oil consumption.

Hey harry,

It is not unusual for engines running synthetic oils to lose a bit, especially during break-in. Usually the loss decreases as the engine settles in and the rings and valve guides seat.

Harry, my car does not use any oil between oil changes and like you, I do a lot of highway driving but my average rpm is in 2k to 2.5k. I only change oil when the msg comes up. 12 to 14 k miles. I've had three. by the Harry do you get your oil and filters changes free. we do here in the land of the big PX. :jester :flag

Hi MSWAIM,
yes, I know what you saying but I thought like now BUDSVETT is saying that the americans by there low rpm-drivings don`t use any oil!
So I would be interrested if any of your XLR-drivers uses some motor-oil during the first 3000 miles.

that would be nice if we would get our oil and filters free but I guess you don`t know our OIL-PRICES over here in the old world :banghead
Here in germany 1 liter of premium-gasoline costs right now Euro 1.15 (thats about $ 1.40) a gallon is 3.8 liter so the price for 1 gallon is here ($ 5.40)=ONE GALLON.
One quart of synth. motor-oil is Euro 15.50 (thats about $ 20.00)= ONE QUART :mad

Maybe this eplains it for you why we have to pay for!!! :crazy

How many miles you got on your XLR? Here we do oil and filter change (inspection)
every 15.000 km thats about 9k miles!
