Noise In Both Doors....

4758 Views 17 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  harrysxlr
Hi there,
does anyone of you have a kind of rubbery noise out of the doors when going over just little bumps? ( I´m german, so it`s a little hard to explain) - it`s like some pieces in the doors rub against each other, little like scratching against each other. ( It`s no rattle)!!! This should not be on a car in this price-level and I`ve owned many Cadillac`s and I never had any noise-problems with one of them.

If someone had this problem please let me know what you did against it or what cause it.
Thanks
Hans

We've noticed when cleaning the car that the front fender panels in the areas adjacent to both doors can "flex" a bit and make a sort of squeaking noise. Wonder if that's what you're hearing (though we've never noticed the sound when driving).

Ed & Sandra, thanks for answering! No, I dont have any rattle from the dash or behind the seats, the only noise come out of the left and right door when driving
on not real smooth roads and it`s no rattle, more like pieces rub to each other.

If nobody else have this I´ll let my dealer looking at this and hope they can fix this.

I´m raeally happy with my car beside this noise.

Hans,

We don't think we explained very well where the area is that can flex and cause a squeaking or rubbing sound. Please see where we've drawn the arrow in this picture:

Grab the bottom of that panel next to the door and move it in and out. You might hear the noise we're describing.

squeaking seats

Well, it's console bob here,

It's amazing how some of us have one problem while others don't.

Have you all experienced the rubbing of the back of the seats rubbing on the fiberglass behind the seat? I'm I big guy and have my seat back as far as I can get it. Maybe that's what Hans is experiencing.
Put your seat as forward as possible and take a nice smelling liquid soap and put a generous amount on the marks the rubbing has made on the fiberglass or the back of the seats.

Not only smells nice but stops the squeaking for months.

Hi Ed and Sandra,
thanks for the good demonstration with the picture but I just went out to my car and looked at it. There is no squeaking when open or close the doors only when I drive. I hear this rubbing sound when I drive slow, about up to 120 kph (75 mph).
On high speed autobahn-drives the noise is gone (through wind and motor noises) and there I can say that the XLR is much quieter than my Vette`s was.

I´ve owned many new Cadillac`s but this is the first one with interior-noises and it is the most expensivest.

Thanks again

Hans

:nono Bob, it`s not behind the seat or the whole dash is noise-free. The rubbing noises come right out of the doors. Left and right side!!! One good thing, when I drive it over 100 120 140 or more mph the noise is gone :glol

Hans

Hans,

We think we're having a little bit of a communication problem here. What we're trying to tell you has nothing to do with opening or closing the door. The panel where we have the red arrow pointing can be moved in and out a little bit (with the door closed) and that motion can generate a rubbing sound which might be transmitted through the front inside edge of the door.

Since you indicated you hear the sound going over bumps, you might be able to cause and locate it by bouncing the car. Raise the hood and have someone grasp the frame immediately behind the top edge of the grille and bounce the front end of the car up and down, while you listen for the sound in the vicinity of the door. If you hear it but can't pinpoint the exact location, use a piece of flexible hose like a stethoscope (hold one end to your ear and move the other end around until the location is found where the noise is the loudest).

Good luck to you.

Best regards,
Ed and Sandra

Just trying to help Hans,

I do know how annoying those little noises can be, that's why I put the info in my last post about the back of the seats fix.
I'm really disheartened about that $125,000 price on e-bay, especially from a dealer. I'm wondering if my MSRP agreement is going to hold up.
BTW.............since when are they making 400? I thought it was 250.
My console has been cool the last few weeks do to the cooler weather. Maybe I should just drive the car from October to April and walk in the summer.

Hi Ed and Sandra,
yes, we had a little communication problem but I will try this out later today and see if this is the problem I have.
It`s nice to have people like you who try to help each other, thank you.

Hello Ed & Sandra,
I´ve try out anythink you have discribed here but when bouncing the car no noise was detected. I also tried out with the back fender part (where the XLR emblem is) and you was right, you can move it a little but it wasn`t it either.
From another member I got an idea to try some silicone spray around the door-frame and I´ll do this later today or on week-end.
If this also don`t help I let my dealer take care of that.

Thank you

Hans

Interior Door Noise

Hans:

I would tell you to have your dealer look at 2 possible causes:

1- Various cables on the inside of the door could cause what your describing if the become loose from their anchor clips.

2- Since the 10" speakers have a fairly significant weight to them, I would have them look at the bolts that hold them to the door frame.

Hello Allen,
this morning I put some silicone-spray all around the door frame and later this evening I´ll go for a ride and see!
If this brought no help I let my dealer do it and I will tell him what you sayd could cause this noise.
Thank you
Harry
PS: still waiting for your XLR V pictures at Bondurant

Hi to you all!
Silicone spray didn`t help anything but yesterday I visited my dealer and bring it in this or next week for one day.
Last saturday I drove for about 1 1/2 hours on country roads and after a carefull listening I found out the noise is not coming out of the doors, no, the noise is on the side windows on the top area.
Maybe the top fits to strong on the side windows and needs an adjustment.
I´ll let you know when my car was at the dealer!

Hans
