I just traded in an SC430 for an '06 XLR... Wow - what a difference.. The XLR is exceeding my expectations so far... (a former 90 and 91 allante' owner as well)

I have a couple of questions...

#1 - the car had 62 miles on it. I am really picky about my new cars -- especially at this price. The milage wasn't disclosed to me until the VERY end and they already had the money. The dealership manager came in and assured me that GM forces all Cadillac dealerships to have their techs "test-drive" new cars 50 miles before they are sold. Is this really true ?

#2 - The AC Compressor makes the engine run really rough when it is engaged and the compressor itself is quite loud. Maybe I am spoiled from the SC430 and how quiet (and non-fun) lexus made that car.. But I just don't think that Cadillac's flagship car should literraly vibrate the interior when the AC compressor is on.. Is this something that "settles" down as I drive the car more ?

In my humble opinion, your dealership manager is a salesman first. My bet is that your car was test driven a few times by either customers... or the dealership manager. No "tech" inspection is needed... it's basically a Corvette, built in Bowling Green and their quality standards are probably the best in the industry.

Our AC compressor is not noisy or rough. Make them fix that.

Greetings five337,

Congratulations!!! I would not spend any time regarding the miles, but I agree get your compressor fixed.

congratulations and welcome to the forum.

my 04 XLR had 9 miles on delivery and my V had 6. I can see being aggrivated when you know you're being lied to, but you'll have 1000 miles on it in no time and the 62 will be irrevelent.
Get the AC fixed....you should never even know its running.....except the cool air

Thanks for the replies.. Mainly I just can't believe that they would BS me like that.. 50 miles for a tech to "inspect" the car - geesh.... Oh well - I am over it.. 200 miles today and my only complaint is that I didn't trade in the sc430 earlier. 2 totally different cars - they should never even be compared together.

While I am here - does anyone know how to read the sensor data? Like on the Allante's it was OFF and WARM for 10 seconds and you could read all the BCM/ECM/PCM data.

Required 50 miles

What you were told was correct that each XLR was to have at least 50 miles on it after the servicing technician was finished. What your dealer may not know, that that program was for 2004 & 2005 model years and not carried over for 2006.

Since the tech was trained to look for issues, the first 2 model years are a good shake out and the additional driving was good for the time. There was a warranty code that would pay the technician for an extended road test.

Thank you

Thanks for the information - I feel a little better now and will assume that the dealership was doing what they thought was correct.

Welcome to the forum,
Sorry to say you bought a used car, I hope you got a good deal. Sixty two miles on a new car is BS. I too have had an 04 bought with 8 and I have a new 06-V that had 4 miles on it when it came out of the of the covered van. Neither of my AC's make any noise nor do they change the pitch of my engine. Should have gotten a V.................Now there's a real kick

Corvettes

When I visited the Bowling Green Corvette plant years ago, before I got my first one, they said that 1 in 50 or so got a test drive at the factory for QA/QC purposes.

Does Cadillac do the same thing for the XLR?

I would want to know if it was test driven by a customer vs. test driven by a technician.

I would have cancelled the whole deal.

I walked into a dealer in Long Beach who quoted me 70,800 for a new 06. When I arrived, there were little white spots ingrained in the paint. I had already signed a contract, but I did not take delivery.. I grabbed the original contract, tore it up and walked off the lot. The sales manager insisted that it was "fallout" from the nearby Long Beach airport, but I still walked away. No one is going to buff anything out of the paint job on my new car.

I went to a dealer in Pasadena and picked it up for 71,000 with an aftermarket grill to make it look like a V.
