Hello,
I'm a new member and had the devil of a time figuring out how to post new messages. Hope this works. I have a 2004 XLR and want to replace the grille with a mesh (V) grille including the lower grille. I understand that cruise control is lost sometimes because the distance sensor is behind the lower grille and covering it with a metal mesh grille disables it. Key word here is sometimes. Has anybody used a mesh grille covering the entire lower grille area and retained cruise control?

Please let me know what you find out and where you found the grille. I've only found the combination upper and small on the bottom. thanks Dan

You guys should read throough the posts in this section. If I recall correctly there was a few older members who put the full lower grill on and had no problems.

Of course Cadilllac and E&G are two of the vendors whohave these products if you can't turn them up on EBay.

Replacement Front Grille

This is a response to XLRPAT re a front grille replacement with a mesh V style grille. This is my second try. This is a very hard forum to use.

The objective is to replace the front grille with a V style grille while retaining full function of the active cruise control. The following is what I did.
-I bought an E&G grille from ebay and installed per the included instructions.
-I also bought a Universal Aluminum Car Mesh Grille 6" X 36" (current ebay listing # 180651529178) for about $5.00. I cut this mesh to the shape and size of the lower opening. I got Chrome Door Edge Guard from Advance Auto and glued it to the edge of the mesh with gasket seal to simulate a frame. I drilled small holes in the lower grille opening side panels and fastened the mesh using small clear zip ties (no, it doesn't rattle). Then I took it out and tested the cruise control. Works fine, fully functional.

Front Grill

I have a 2008 XLR with a 2008-V lower mesh grill. I have no problems with my active cruse control. It was a little tricky installing it but with a little tweaking it fit just fine.

Oh, I forgot to mention the lower portion of the grill assembly is a GM off a 2008 Cadillac XLR.
