Just picked up my 2006 Plat w/shale and love it. My 2004 was flooded Thanksgiving and it took my insurance co. 60 days before they would
total it. The insurance co. totaled for $48,500, the dealer had his wife's demo
for sale $54,412.00 (6000mi). I had $867.00 redeemable on my GM Mstr Card
plus GM kicked in another $1000. So the net difference to trade up from the 04 to the 06 $4,45.00 plus tax and tags. Not bad:party

Hmmmmm

I have been considering a purchase but, quite frankly, the posts during the past two years have been filled with horror stories. One gentleman just purchased a V only to have multiple problems. Another has to have an engine replaced. Top problems. Electrical. Leather fading. Now, I know that only those who complain seem to post, but so few units are sold, it appears that the percentages are too high. Then, I see that an 04 is totalled out for$48,000? One on the lot for $54,000? What's that, a 40-45% loss in value in two years on a low mileage vehicle? Horrible. Perhaps a Corvette, $20,000 cheaper and higher resale is a better choice. Love the look of the XLR but not worth the problems or the loss in resale. On the other hand, my CTS has been virtually flawless, rides like the wind. Looks great after 3 years. And the new 08 looks great! Anyway, best of luck with the car to those who own one!

The things you are saying about the XLR are exactly the same reasons we bought it and not the CTS. We have a few friends with CTS's which have virtually fallen apart from the drivetrain to the interior. The great part about the X is that everything is covered including substitute transportation...

Your point is quite true about only the problems being noted. We have the same thing with our Yamaha jet boat. The folks who post problems are statistically low. With the XLR the level of irritation is high because we have paid a lot for the vehicle and have high expectations.

If you want to see this for yourself, instead of just saying it ain't so, take a look at the BMW, Mercedes, & Jaguar forums. All complex vehicles have problems and this one is no different.

Just my opinion.

What to purchase? If you have the cash the 2006 or 2007 XLR are outstanding. There are few cars on the road that come close to them. I live in the North east and only wish the weather was on the warm side, so the top can come down.
I just turned in my 2005 STS for the XLR. The only question I have is: The navigation system on the 2005 STS would list the name of the road you were on in bold type on the botton of the map. The 2006 XLR as far as I know does not offer that feature . I don't understand why this feature was removed. It was great when I was looking for a special street and address? Buy American!
