This is my first post to a great forum- THANK YOU!

The lenses in front of my front DRL/turn signal lights are melted (ugly and bubbly). Has anyone had any luck getting the dealer to replace these for no charge under warranty? I'm almost a little afraid to ask my service writer.... Otherwise the car is PERFECT (except for one of the speakers in my headrest....)!

Thanks in advance!

There is a recall that affects the headlight assemblies. I had mine replaced by the dealer for exactly the same reason as yours on a service bulletin. I think the recall also has them replacing the headlight assembly... maybe someone else can chime in, but I've had both done at no cost. I think the headlight assemblies run around $1,000 if you have it done at your own expense.

Yes, Caly is correct. My dealer replaced mine and they were covered under warranty. They cost around $1000.00! GM uses the later model headlight assemblies and this must include an adapter for the wiring to convert the older design wiring to the newer light module. Mine now look and work great. What year is your car?

This condition seems prevelant in '04-'05 models and is recognized and corrected by most good servicing dealers. Good luck with your repairs.

Regards,

Elfred

Thanks for the info! My XLR is indeed a 2004 with a build date of June 2004. I'll ask the dealer about replacing them the next time I'm in.

I saw some (new?) headlight assemblies on eBay for around $100; I wonder where those come from, or if they're the damaged ones? I won't bother finding out. :thumbs

I know I should do another post to get answers for this, but: I enjoy the DVD unlock code. It looks like there could be lots of other fun codes in there also. Does anyone know of any others?

Thanks again!

Just the one code so far and that's only good for the 04 and some 05's.
You mention the speakers in your headrest? To loud?
If you go into your sound control you can change the settings to 2 or 3 different setups.

They aren't too loud- the treble (on one side always) has kind of a "buzzy" sound. It's hard to describe, but I think it's bar-be-qued. I'll ask my service writer after he gets me the new headlight assemblies!

Sounds like two things need to be warranted. There are posts on here somewhere that will tell the number of the fix for the lights.

Be aware that this can be a major pain in the posterior. We had ours in three times to have these replaced, they still don't look right. I even worked with the tech for a few hours on it. Since the 04-05 model they made changes to the manufacturer and the rubber does not line up correctly. I intend to take this up with the factory folks at the rendezvous since we can't get this resolved here.

Mr XLR promised to help out but stopped responding to my emails, I know I have posted about this before.

As to the $100 ones on E-bay... they are the ones that were changed out via warranty that someone is digging out of the trash. Look at the photos online and you can see the bubbling.

Make sure that your dealership will have a body shop put these in if they can't get them right. This is really more of a body part than a normal headlight.

Good luck!

Paul
