I searched on the K&N web site an air filter that would fit on my 04 XLR, but there is only the oil filter available for the 04. Did anyone install the K&N air filter made for 05 XLRs on a 04?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I've gone to the garage and have taken both filters out of the 04 and the V . Part numbers below.
04-------Delco 1208C
06-V----Delco 2945C

The nice surprise is they are interchangeable. I physically took both out and tried each in both cars. Snug as a bug in a rug.
The only difference I could see was the paper filter on the 04 was vertical and the V was horizontal.

The access for air intake in my estimation is poor. I think I might take the covers off both filters on the V and run it just like that. It would definitely get more air. It just wouldn't look to good for show, unless you guys could talk me out of it.
If we had a new intake filter system like the Vette, we could pick up quite a few more pony's, really cheap. Who can we get to make a better intake...........K&N?

Just a word of caution - beware the oiled elements used by K&N and other manufacturers in the V. That S/C'ed engine will be pulling in alot of air and with it comes a tiny amount of that oil. Once that stuff gets on the sensor wire in your MAF, it's all over. (I found out the hard way).

That is a problem for many of the folks who upgrade to those filters, so if you choose to do so, wipe off any excess oil and I would recommend setting the element on some paper towels over night to wick away any extra oil.

Not to say you can't face the same problem in N/A's engines such as the XLR, however the air draw and the velocity is much greater on the V, especially when it's in "positive boost".

BTW - Did Cadillac pony up for a boost gauge in the V?

with the covers off you would loose the forced air and defeat the purpose.
Besides, the covers hold the filters in place, I wouldn't chance running without filters:nono

Yea, Mike, I lost it for a few minutes, I was going to try and secure it another way. I'm going on line with K&N in Riverside and see if they will make a intake much like the Vette. I will even give them my V if they give me mine for free. If i'm not mistaken, 04 through the V are all the same. I did order my filters today. But when I talked to K&N I found out it was a different number for the 06, but I think it is the same based on what I found out in the garage. Would you be interested if I get this done?

Yea Bob you have a knack for getting custom parts made. I would be a player for my 04 XLR if someone could make a custom air intake. Maybe even a neat caddy logo or XLR on it to jazz up the engine compartment.

Bill,
Do you have any idea how many pony's we could pick up?...........I will follow up on this and see if I can talk them into this. I have to look at my two vehicles to see if there is any difference between them. If there isn't, there is a lot of XLR's out there for K&N. Do you by chance no how many have been sold since 04?

On another note, I will be going to non-binding arbitration next month. My lawyer wanted to keep negotiating or go to court in January 07, but given what I probably could make at arbitration and get it over with, that would be the best way to handle this case. If they try to play games, I'll just walk and tell them, "see ya in court".Bob

Additional horses ultimately depends on the final product but I've seen numbers around 15-20 Hp. Any gain would be OK for me but what is most important is its under the hood appearance. I'm looking for something that would enhance the appearance of a fairly bland engine compatment.

Between the K&N Filters and the Corsa Exhaust there is a measurable difference in both performance and mileage (If I can keep my foot out of it)
I believe I will try painting the engine cover the same color as the car.

As I've mentioned before, K&N has already done the R&D and made a prototype,
they wanted to use my car to make it, but we couldn't work out a deal.
My computer crashed last year, so I lost my contact info.
Anyway, they just need some incentive to produce them......
I'm sure we could round up a lot of interested parties on this site

I know of a guy in town the has a company that munufactures these items for GTO's. I think there may be a higher volume needed than just 5 or 6 units. If we run into road blocks I will stop and see him.

Mike,
What made the deal go South? If they made a prototype, why didn't they make it? I'm sending off an e-mail today to see whasup?

they made one for a show car at the 2004 SEMA show, and claimed they would "possibly" be in production shortly after....you know how those things work.

The only deal I was involved in is they contacted me to use my car to make the one off piece to then put on the show car. (A mutual contact and I live in the area.) To wrench on my car for a week, they were offering free filters and the air intake...."if and when they ever made them". I wanted either the show piece when they were done with the show, or for them to make me a second piece, even if I had to pay for it.
We couldn't agree.....and I'd still be waiting!

OK, I'll see if I get a return e-mail. Mike wasn't to happy with them, but at least he gave me a heads up as to their methods of screwing over people after they use their car for R&D

Air Intake

When I bought my '04, I was extremely disappointed that an upgrade air intake system was not available. Usually the first thing I do on my cars is upgrade the intake and the exhaust. I am very, very pleased with my Corsa exhaust. I have upgraded the filters but would love to be on the list for an improved air intake system.
