Anyone have a rough idling xlr? Mine sounds like a cylinder is misfiring when in drive and stopped, but not every time.:confused

Of course, it doesn't do it at the dealers, nor does it throw off any computer codes, but it sounds like a 3/4 racing cam when its "in the mood".:boxing

No noticeable performance loss.

Any ideas or similar problems?

Same exact problem

I "feel" the exact same thing, just like it was misfiring......I have a 2005 XLR.

Haven't had a chance to take it the the dealer yet.:banghead

Just once the other day, my 04 misfired like it had a cold and coughed just once. not worryed it's in the process of being bought back by GM.

Its at Moe, Larry & Curly's for day 2, definitely worse when cold & stopped in Drive.

The stooges, I mean dealer, had it for the same thing 2-3 weeks ago, cleared the code and didn't fix ANYTHING.:nodno

Of course, the next day, the "check engine" light went back on.:banghead

They actually "pray" that if they turn off the check engine light, maybe, by the grace of god, the problem will go away!

I think they need to try harder (or pray harder) because its not working--I need to investigate the lemon laws for leased cars!

I love my XLR, but going to the dealer every single month is getting ridiculous!

At least I got a CTS this time--fun to drive little family car (but no XLR)!

Funny you shouyld mention this.

I just noted the same thing on my (April 2004 delivery date) XLR within the past 2-3 weeks (and it has happened since being in the shop for brakes, oil change, XM upgrade).

At one point, I was at a stop light, and it was so rough, I felt I needed to shift into neutral to keep it from stalling.

After my appointment (the car sat for a hour), it ran fine.

Every time it has happened (maybe 3-4 times), it doesn't last long enough to get to OnStar, or I am not in a position to do it.

The only thing I get is a "service Cruise radar" when it's VERY cold in the morning. goes away.

Hey, check your gas cap. That can make the light go on. I had to replace my gas cap, and I had to replace it on both my chevy suv's....

Just a thought.

Update....

I only run 93 octane, and have had the gas cap replaced long ago at the dealer due to other false "check engine" warnings--but thanks for the suggestions.

She's been at the dealer for 5 days now, they've admitted that they have no idea why its misbehaving, and they're on the phone with GM. :confused :smash

Looks like I'll have to wait for someone on this website to fix the problem, get the service bulletin, and then when I give it to the Westchester NY clowns, they'll fix mine (this has happened before with the brake squeal on the 04's).

Eyedoc, the rough idling should have thrown off an engine code--if your dealer is better than mine (impossible not to be) perhaps you can get yours fixed and get us all the answer/service code! Unfortunately the super-rough idling is a bit intermittent, so you do need the engine code for them to fix it--mine won't do it when at the dealer (all warmed up, of course).

I know I will be personally indebted to you (or anyone who has a mechanic good enough to figure this one out).

Fixed for 3 days now....

Well, according to the 3 stooges (dealership) GM Tech Support had no clue, other than to change a "rear" oxygen sensor, which did not work.

The stooges, embarrassed at having the car for the entire week, 3rd time for the same problem, claim that "they" suddenly, magically remembered to change a "forward" oxygen sensor, because that worked on an XLR with the same problem, some time ago.

Of course they are full of it, since they had no clue for 5 days and "suddenly" remembered a prior fix, conveniently after talking to GM Tech Support....:rolleyes

You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to know BS when you hear it!:yesnod

Literally had to RACE home to get to the dealer by 5:30 on Friday (pulled in 5:29) so, at least I got to drive home with my top down--69 degrees--first top down drive of 2006!:cheers

I hate to take it in right now, just got it back a week ago after having it in twice in February (a week and a half to upgrade the OnStar and fix the brake rotors - yea, it took three visits and the service bulletin for them to replace the rotors and fix the squeal and then back to replace the driving light that burnt out while in the shop).

If the really rough idle happens again, I'll take mine in and post on the site what they find.

I have to take my XLR back in. First it was a gasoline smell and check engine light with "Check Gas Cap" message. The gas cap and #1 gas tank was replaced. Unfortuantely the check engine light came back on a few days later and the engine ran rough. Two days after that the check engine light was off and no codes were present. The engine ran smoothly.

Today the check engine light came back on with code P0159, so back to the dealer we go...

I'm getting pulsing from the brakes now at 17K miles. Is there a warranty replacement of the rotors going on?

after 10,000 miles they consider the rotors normal wear and tear.

The repair code is:

4 new rotors for an XLR would be what, $2,000.00??? $3,000.00???

Even pads shouldn't need replacing at 17,000mi, unless you drive stop & go, flooring it & slamming on the brakes at every possible moment:yesnod

I have a crazy cousin who used to drive his 280ZX that way, when he said "great car but it sure goes through brakes like crazy" I burst out laughing!
He didn't like my "did you ever consider driving without giving yourself whiplash" comment! :glol


Back to the rough idling, she's still running smooth-as-new--if you have the same problem, get them to change the "forward" oxygen sensor!


My 04' was throwing off codes P1137, 0300, & 0172, tech assist case 8813243

Repair 1 sensor, oxygen (engine control) - replace opcode J6372

My was idling rough yesterday on the way home. I called OnStar and they said they were not getting an error codes.

Guess I'll take it in to the Dealer, I'll let them know wbaout the codes and O2 sensor you mentioned.

Remember

Eyedoc, remember to tell the dealer to change the "forward" sensor, aparently the codes only refer to the "rear" sensor.

after 10,000 miles they consider the rotors normal wear and tear.

The sad thing is Nissan had complaints on front rotors on the Titan pickup and sent owners a letter stating they would cover them for 36,000 miles even if it exceeded 36 months. They also replaced the rotors on my FX45 at 30,000 under warranty. Ford used the same 10,000 mile excuse on my 94 Continental.

Which raises another question, why do I always pick vehicles with weak rotors? :banghead
