Does anyone have knowledge or a contact at GM or ??? regarding getting into the programming of the HUD? Given this is not a "critical" part of the car - compared to the ABS, ECU, etc. I am hoping this could be "accessed".

My desire is to have - at a minimum - a tach display added (and maybe some gauges like the Vette). I find it strange that when manually shifting - you get the gear displayed - but no idea what the RPM is without going Heads-Down.

Nav data would be nice too.

I considered putting a Vette HUD in - but then you lose the Adaptive Cruise display and probably the shift data.

Note that the interface connectors and such are the same (except for the Vette's Page display - it is a NC on the XLR) - and most of the data is coming in over the serial link (of course that could be munged - but I don't believe so).

Anyway just another area of exploration.

We have had questions before on this site that where a little tough but Master Jim has some really great ideas and a lot of money or filthy rich. I'd hate to find out how much that would cost, but great ideas.
I really don't see any reason to show what RPM's it shifts at, since it's going to shift at the pre-selected shift points. If your using the gate shifting, your at the shift points so fast that you waffle it, unless you shift at 5100, and you will have egg on your face at the next light. I know, I've done it.
Now I leave it in automatic and put the performance mode on...................get outa the way, I don't like eggs without bacon and home fries..

HUD changes

Well not rich by a long shot - but don't mind putting funds into a car and very curious about ability to alter the computers. I am a programmer by trade and therefore always want to "tweak" things to my preferences (ok - truth be told I like to hack these things to make them "better").

The TACH in the HUD is just one of the many things I would enjoy seeing. The vette supports a whole slew of options and elements and I find it a bit sad that the XLR (which should be a premier vehicle) is lacking in areas like this - just like the Mag Ride system - why does the Vette support modes and the XLR is stuck with a single setting. (That is my next area of study)

Anyway - at the extreme end of things - I would like to know if you could get a Thermal Image into the HUD for those really dark back roads. I know it could be sent to the center display - but that is a Heads Down situation again.

So - again - if any one knows how to "get into" the programming - or knows someone at GM that I could "talk with" - please let me know. Besides - if I can get into this - we can do it for XLR gang :)

Hey master Jim,
By modes do you mean performance mode and removing stabilitrack and TC?
If you do I have a nice surprise for you.

What he is refering to Bob is the switchable modes - tour vs sport mode. In tour I get a nice, comfortable ride. In sport I get a ground hugging, every bump stings feel but I also sense a glue-like connection to the road without losing S/T and/or T/C. If I want it all, I can turn both S/T and T/C off, switch to sport mode and have a ball. The problem is, too much power and not enough traction! I think you have experienced the downfall of that.

Yes, I have and have sworn off of the performance mode unless I'm about to run somebody in a straight line. I would guess he is knowledgeable about the switch for the performance mode. He seems to be really up on everything. Nice of you to join in, we haven't heard from you in a while.

Well I have been playing with Corvettes since the early 70s and just decided to try the Cadillac Vette for this cycle (besides the C6 looks have just not grown on me yet - but then the C5 took me 4 years too).

Anyway I have several friends with C6s and I have tech manuals from the C6 and XLR which allow me to check the various differences.

It appears that most of the systems (less engine/trany obviously) are cross compatible to some extent. Again the programming can greatly alter how things function.

But so far I have put Vette Z51 Brakes, Z51 Sway Bars, and Cray Wheels (designed for the Vette) on without any issues - it just shows how compatible things really are. Considered using the Vette Corsa Exhaust - but found they had a XLR version so went that way.

Anyway - really like the idea of having the Cadillac looks and feel - but also getting the "abilities" that the Vette provides (Suspension, HUD, and would even like to alter the DIC at some point). I just need to find a contact that can provide some information on the computer systems (basically language and programming methodologies - source code would be nice too).

Anyway as stated earlier - if someone has knowledge or a contact - please let me know.

HEY - side note - does anyone know a method to recalibrate the speedometer when running non-standard tires? Talked with the dealer and they state they can NOT adjust it (or are unwilling). I know that it is a pulse train from the trany to the BCM which it then adjusts it to the 4K pulses per mile for the rest of the car - but wondering if there is any place mechanically to alter this or if I have to build a "divider" circuit to change the pulse count - comments?

If you would get out of that iron lung and stop weezing, maybe they would treat you more like your alive.
I'll even be nice to you if you put me in your will.
