HUD Images?

One more in my series of questions. Hopefully once someone sees one of these cars these will be answered...

What specifically is displayed on the HUD? From the literature I've been able to find the list is:

Digital Speedometer
Turn Signals
High Beam Headlight Indicator
Adatptive Cruise Control Distance Mark
Semi-Manual Gear Shift Indicator
CD Disc/Track Number

Hopefully someone (evenually) will be able to complete the list.

Anyone have any pictures of the HUD in action?

One more piece of information on the HUD:

The XLR HUD is configurable in six languages, including Japanese. This is a new version of a HUD and uses an Liquid Crystal Diode (LCD)-based projection system rather than a Cathode Ray Tube (CRT)-based or vacuum florescent tube-based version.

Sounds cool to me, bet it is a lot more "high tech" looking than that in my Z06:smash

It's actually much more pleasing to the eye than the one in the vette. I got the opportunity to try one a couple of weeks ago. It's an amazing car.

The one I tried was a prototype, but I understand there aren't any differences to the real one. The fit and finish will probably be a bit better, although that one was extremely nice.

THe only thing I wasn't sold on was the power. It just seemed a bit undernourished. On the other hand, the tranny was awesome. Very comfortable car, and I think it would be a pleasure to take that on a trip. THe top is very cool, and although I didn't have a manual for the GPS system, it was very easy to use. What a computer illiterate like myself would call user friendly.

It handled well, and got a lot of stares.:cheers

One additional note - I've been told that the HUD displays changes to the audio system for up to five seconds. At that time, the information disappears ("declutters" in HUD terminology) to prevent the driver from having too much information projected in onto the windshield.

Attached is an image of the HUD "in action". The image was taken inside the showroom at David Taylor Cadillac, which explains the unusual photo of a HUD projected onto a couch.

The "check gages" message was because the XLR had issued a "low fuel" message on the Driver Information Center display.

When you first start the car, the HUD lights up like a Christmas tree. A big red XLR and all the icons display momentarily. Sad the passenger can't see it!!!!!!!!

Wow! I had missed that (guess I was looking at other things in the vehicle). Maybe you can bring a mirror with you to show the passenger

The big XLR is green, not red... Checked it this morning. I was unable to get a picture of it though, just didn't show up. Maybe my camera lens is polarized??? The HUD cannot be seen while wearing polarized sunglasses.

The front glass is actually polarized so that the image will reflect. The HUD is projected onto the glass with an LCD monitor.

The only thing I can think of is that the auto focus may be getting in the way. You have to focus close to or on infinity to bring in the image. If you really did have a polarized lens then turning the camera 90 degrees should solve the problem.

I put a large dark red rag on the windshield, so I don't think focus was a problem. The rag came out just fine! I'll try turning the camera.

I tried. I just can't seem to get a picture of the HUD.

The red cloth may be the problem. Unless the cloth was placed in the distance, the camera will try to focus on the close-up object. That may be so close that the camera can't focus on it and you end up with a distorted picture that doesn't seem to include the HUD.

The method I used was to aim at an object about 10-15 feet in front of the car. The further the object you focus on is from the car, the better. The key is that the HUD is focused at infinity, so the camera should also be. Do not try to focus on the HUD image, however.

You can also use the steering wheel as a guide for camera placement - keep the highest part of the steering wheel in the bottom of the photo as a guide for where the HUD image is located.

I've tried it both ways, using a digital camera, which is autofocus. I'd hate to lug out my old single lens reflex camera and have to get film developed just for this...

Someone must be able to get this picture.

Here is what I have been able to find so far. In the article they describe the two glass panes but I don't think that would polarize the light (I guess it could).

The images are designed to align at the driver's standard position.
