I have an '06 V and there are times the heads Up Display displays and other times it doesn't. I usually play around with the controls and it usually comes down from it's high perch (when it feels like it!).

Yesterday was particularly interesting:
I took a friend out for a ride on the parkway (wanted to do that 40mph to 70mph blow-out) but the display wasn't displayed so I couldn't see the gear I was in. Got off the highway, turned her off and restarted hoping to "re-boot" the system--no difference. I could see my friend salivating so I let him have the honor of driving her for awhile--lo and behold the Display displayed for him!!! Let him drive back home, I went and sat in the driver's seat and it was gone--he got back in and it was invisible to him too--did it go on an un-approved break????

Try to reset the #1 drivers position AFTER you readjust the HUD so you can see it. I believe the position of the HUD is recalled when you enter the car (depending upon how you have the Personalization Features set up). It could have forgotten where it should be....

The position is stored cuz Driver #1 and #2 probably wouldn't use the exact same position.

OK, this morning the display became visible after futzing with the controls awhile. I set it where I want it to always appear and pressed #1 driver. Let's see if it follows directions and always appears where I set it.

Thanks for your input homegameroom!!!

polarized sunglasses

cadillac tech is right on about the polarized sunglasses. I got a new pair last week and had them add polarize to them when I got in the car I could read the dash and nav. OK but there was NO HUD. I took them back in and told them to remove it. It took another few days to get them back by I can see/read the HUD just find now.

Good suggestions, but. . .neither pertain to my problem.

I took her for a ride after I adjusted (and saw) the HUD. While I was out it just disappeared on it's own--RATS!!!

Although I was able to bring it back into view by lowering the position. It stayed there for the remainder of the trip.

We'll see where it winds up next time out.

It would sound like either a short in the wiring (position switch) or a controller error (wrong signal) to the Heads Up Display (HUD). Being intermittent as described, you need to try and leave it in the incorrect postion when it occurs and get it to a dealership to look at. I don't think this type of command error would show up in the data log of errors.

Because you can "pull it down" into position, it would appear to be getting an invalid command to "go up."

I don't think it would be a mechanical problem (HUD assembly mounting) because you can pull it up into a viewing position.

It may be the body control module causing your problem. I repaired an "04 last year with similar complaint by replacing the BCM. The BCM in your XLR handles just about everything not related to the powertrain. I will do some checking and see if I can come up with anything.

Polarized

Well, I fell prey to the disappearing HUD. With a trip to the beach coming up this month, I invested in a new pair of sunglasses. I didn't notice that they were polarized when I got them, but was very upset when I took a drive in the XLR and discovered my HUD "wasn't working."

After a few frantic moments, attempting to increase the brightness of the HUD, I peeked over the top of the glasses and the HUD magically reappeared.

I was amazed how absolute the polarized sunglasses blank out the HUD. Now I have a new pair of sunglasses for my pickup and I'm back to shopping for a (non-polarized) pair for the XLR and the beach. :banghead

BTW, this phenomenon is mentioned in the owner's manual (v.2005, p. 3-35, last sentence).
