Hello All

Haven't been on here in a while. Traded out my XLR in December and really miss the car. But as some of you know my wife and I were expecting a baby so the unpractical 2 seater had to go along with the wife's new BMW 330CI. Teaded the XLR for a Lexus RX330 which is a nice ride.

Our new bundle of joy was born March 27th (actual due date) a perfectly healthy girl named Olivia.

P.S. I still have an opportunity to drive my parents XLR if I need to get it our of my system.

Take care all

Congrat's to you and your wife :cheers

I am actually interested in making the move to an XLR while I can. About to get engaged soon and know that my time will be limited as to how long I can get away with a two seater. I figure that I have a few years yet.:lol

I would get it soon. I really enjoyed my XLR. My wife and I bought to unpractical sports cars right before we met. Between the two of us we had to many cars and the Beemer and the XLR went, but I kept the motorcycle. My dad and mon are looking to sell their 05 silver XLR with custome wheels and exhaust at a really fair price. If you're interested, let us know

Seems like the pefect thread...

...to make a return and say hello. :seeya

I got a private message from 1_XLR way back in Feb, and another one from Blaise just recently, both wondering where I have been. To tell the truth, I feel some pangs of guilt about not coming here and "confessing" to you all, my longtime correspondents.

Like some others, we sold the XLR in November. The Bride decided she didn't like it. She's only 5'3" and the body work was too high, and the nose was too long to suit her. She said she couldn't see out and was afraid of bashing in to someone.

That brings up her other gripe. She said I "fussed" over the car too much. Hummph! I am here to tell you THAT IS NOT TRUE!

(Unless, of course you are talking about all those wax jobs, vigilance for road stones, the invisishield, parking wa-a-a-ay at the back of the parking lot and only in end spaces, and querying her as to where she was going and schooling her on proper parking techniques to avoid door dings...maybe it was that, ya think?)

Regarding price, all things considered the damage was not too bad. We got $57K, with 8,000 miles and 1-1/2 years old (2004 model). It was still a hit that I didn't want to take, and I grieved about it for a week. She wanted a Mini Cooper Convertible of all things. <<Sigh!>> Now she's got it. Its cute, but at 6'-1", I don't fit very well. The Escalade, my daily driver, is more to my liking. The lesson learned is to not buy the next sports car as a present for my wife!!!

I also sold the C-4 'vette. No, the business is not falling on hard times. I'm just cleaning out the garage right now. We are down to two cars...but not for long. I went to Barrett-Jackson (Scottsdale) in Jan to get some ideas about what's next....

So Howdy! from Lake Conroe, Texas, y'all!

Hey there Aviator!
.....when you considered you're confessional in Feb , I didn't expect it would take you so long to get up the nerve:lol

Aviator,

Good to have you back..
You don't have to have one of these great cars to be on this forum.

Please don't take it out on your wife or get jealous the next time one of us does loops around you next time we catch you out riding in your Mini Cooper... :jester

Sorry Tom I just had to rub it in just a little.. But really - please stay around and jump in from time to time. We cover many things here and insight and knowledge is alway welcome.

I guess we will never get the Houston bunch together for that photo opt now.

But Wait I can see it now your Mini sandwiched in between My Red XLR and Andy's Blue XLR. I hope you have a White mini. We could make it a Red, White & Blue sandwich.

Please don't try and follow us when we leave I would not want you to hurt your wifes car...:glol :glol

Any way good you have you back Tom.:party

Gracias por bienvenidos cordial, amigos!

It is nice to know I was missed. Sorry it has taken me so long to write the "mea culpa". No excuses. My bad.

Regarding the Garage Mahal that 1_XLR mentioned, it is well underway.

It is being prepared for whatever is next...and it could be a V. Most likely a late 60's Corvette convertible, torch red, matching numbers 427.

One of the things I learned at Barrett-Jackson, restoring one yourself is not usually a financial winner. You do it because you love doing it. However, buying a frame off restoration where someone has dropped $160K, sometimes can be bought at auction for half that.

I'll start a new thread about Garage Mahals. I'll tell you about my what is going on on Lake Conroe, and I want to know about yours.

PS - You hot rods out there. Don't count old Aviator out yet. In the off-season I picked up a Cobalt 282, 9 liter 450 hp Volvo (used with 35 engine hours) to park in the boat house.

Your 66 'vette sounds sweet. I might be interested, but not at 200K. Regarding Barrett-Jackson: Did you know when you put you car in that auction, they will accept absolutely NO RESERVE?

The stuff you see on TV shows ridiculously high prices. When the cameras are rolling, the big money is there. But suppose you draw the 9:00am slot? I saw guys who had receipts for $140K whose car sold for $35K. B-J has as many bargains as big dollar sales.

BUDSVET - When is your next trip to The Woodlands? We moved my company there last year.

Hey, Tom - good to hear from you. Your wife traded out for a Mini Cooper and mine went for an H2. How's that for two ends of the spectrum???

Does she like the H2 after driving it for a while?

The Bride loves the Mini. Its just right for her. Its not fair for me to say I don't like it. I do like it. But its sorta like looking at a pair of cool italian loafers, and upon trying them on, they hurt your feet. The Mini is like that for me. I can appreciate it, but I just don't like to drive in it. It doesn't fit me very well.

What happened to the V?

Hey Aviator, good to have you back!

Didn't you put down a deposit on a V last year?

If I recall, it was something like "Honey, I know we already have an XLR, but I don't have the time right now to get the therapy I need....:lol "

Lastly, I'm surprised that the XLR had more room than the Mini--from what I've read, the Mini is big inside?!? :confused

I made a request to order a V, and offered a deposit when I thought the car was going to be $85K. They couldn't take a deposit at that time. On the first day they could take a deposit, my sales person called me and offered me the first V at their dealership at $100K. She told me not to worry about the deposit, since hey had ordered the Infra-red equipped the way I wanted it already. I thought about it for a couple of days and then declined.

That car was not pre-sold. When it came in, they called me, and I went down to see it, drooled all over it, sat in it, started it up... and didn't pull the trigger.
>Sigh!< Such a great car..... :nopity

My only excuse is that I was still smarting over having to sell the Xenon Blue and had already committed to go to Barrett-Jackson....but I didn't come back with anything from there either.

The XLR has a smaller cabin than the Mini, but is far more comfortable. Remember the Mini has seats for four, and it is narrower. You're talking to a guy whose daily driver is a White Diamond Escalade. :)
