When I bought my `06 XLR the salesman told me not to used premium gas , just use regular. At another Cadillac dealerhip, they told me to use mid-grade. The driver`s manual says the car was designed to run on premium. What has been anyone`s experience with the grade of gasoline used in their XLRs? Any stumbling between shifts? Milage differences? Thanks.

Gas usage

Use premium, you'll get the performance the car was designed to obtain. Sure, it will run on regular, but I doubt you'll be happy with the way it performs. You'll have less problems with the motor detonating. Go by the manual, some dealers don't sell enough of the XLR to really know. Bill (ocool)

First of all let me say that you can run ANY grade of fuel from 87 to 94 octane. The XLR was designed with a Variable Valve Timing (VVT) engine. In english, this engine will adjust it's own timing to adjust itself for different loads that are put on it.

If you are driving at sea level the engine adjusts itself for the heavier air and will readjust itself if you are driving, say in the mountains of Colorado where the air is much thinner.

If you want the optimum performance from the engine, you should use the higher grade of fuel.
