Today I received a mailer offering a 10% reduction in price for an updated version of the GPS disk if one acts by 7/31/07. No where on the mailer - or on the www.gmnavdisc.com website does it tell you what the updates are (like NAVTEQ does) so I called the GMNAVDISC contact us helpline to inquire. They didn't know either but offered that 20% of the maps have been updated. NAVTEQ at least offers you a website and lists the updates within each of the 50 states (er - 48 I guess since this system does not work in Hawaii or Alaska).

The other problem I see here is that the mailer also does not inform the customer that he/she is buying old inventory as a new version is due to be released sometime between July and September. I think that was either a gross oversight or someone in Marketing is trying to pull the wool over our heads and get rid of old inventory fast.

Come'on Cadillac - that's not a characteristic of a quality company.

I don't understand why you're suprised that they would discount current stock before a new release comes out. current inventory cars are always discounted before the new year arrives.

I'm not sure I said I was surprised that they were offering a 10% discount for old inventory. My point was that it was old inventory but they way it was presented on the mailer was just the opposite - making the reader believe that this was a just-released version. They could have been upfront with a note - even if it was in fine print - that a new version would be introduced in less than two months.

It is also somewhat strange that while others list versions on their data disks, GM now uses part numbers. I told the customer service rep that I had version 6 and asked if what was advertised was version 6 or 7 and she said that they do not use versions any longer. I don't know if that is really true.

I'd LOVE a copy of any newer disc. My 04 has the original disc, and the NAV system sometimes takes me on screwy routes because so many roads are unverified in my area!!!

please contact me if anyone has one available for sale! Thanks to all! :flag

They do become available once in a while and most members are just sending them free to the first one that requests it. I've already sent my 06 disc out.
That is a crazy area for winding up on a dirt road. I was on I-35 heading out of Bowling Green and my road B#@ch tells me to take a right turn and the next thing she askes me to take a left down a dirt road. Stopped the car and did a re-route and got back on I-35 and never looked back.

Nav Disc Upgrade Discontinued for 2008

For the 2008 model year, all GM models including the XLR that have a navigation system, the 2 free upgrade program have been discontinued. You will still be able to www.gmNavDisc.com and purchase a newer disc for 2008 going forward.

This does not affect the 2006/2007 owners in any way, they will still be covered under the program. 2004/2005 owners of XLRs and any GM nav system owner prior to 2006 will be able to still order a new version online.

This change was not due to any type of a cost cutting policy

It's quite obvious that GM monitors this site and they see us giving the discs to other or selling them and they are loosing revenue. Another shame on GM

this is an issue for all GM cars (with nav) so I don't think the XLR segment, on this XLR forum, was much of a factor. I think they had too many problems with earlier discs and so offered free upgrades to pacify potential complaints......most likely a deal GM made with the disc manufacturer. By 2008 they probably figure they got all the bugs worked out. Now they can raise the upgrade price to make up for all the discs they gave away!!

I know Allen will disagree with me BUT.... I think GM is moving off point with these type of penny ante changes -as it pertains to the XLR line.

In my opinion the OnStar, NavSystem and all other warranty, maintenance should be free for the term of the warranty --origional or Certified. build the cost inot the product but XLR owners should not be out of pocket for anything during this period AND they should have an opprtunity to extend the coverage if they choose to.

I would inclucde tires in the deal but there's so many variables.

ARE YOU LISTENING GM/CADILLAC ????

When will 7.0 be introduced?

The current version is 6.0 and the part number for the XLR is:
# 15923893 the Version is displayed on each disc, the reps at GMnavdisc.com dont actually see the discs.

I called the NAVDISK hotline and was told a new release could be in late June or possibly as late as August. They don't know until the disks come in. Regardless, I am running on 5.0 and bought my new 2006 XLR-V in January 07. The hotline told me to take it up with my dealer if I want a current disk and not have it included as one of my two free updates. Am I being unreasonable to want the 6.0 release that came out 6 months before I bought my car? I am sure my dealer will be thrilled to hear from me on this one.

Nav Disc Version 7.0

The versions usually change in the mid to late fall for installed as part of the 2008 model year. Just because the model year changes, it does not mean the disc is automatically upgraded to the next version.

I would contact GM Nav Disc in the late summer and ask them if the have the new XLR nav disc. They dont go by version #, but they will be able to tell you the newest available part number.

Remember the newest disc available is 15923893u (Version 6)

I would wait for the 7.0 version....you're not going to see thta much difference between 5.0 and 6.0, so you're not missing much.

I looked on eBay for a current disc, and found one for $175. I thought, "oh, bother!". For a couple extra bucks I went to the GM Nav disc site & bought a new one. After all, the price of a new disc is about the same as a few tankfulls of gas! Yeah, I know it will be outdated in a few months, but I'm planning on hitting the open road soon & my 03 disc is terrible!
