$3.29 Woodland Hills, CA. Coronado, Beverly Hills, Newport Beach, Malibu certainly have their premiums. Only now are we beginning to see premium fuel approach the real-dollars peak set in 1980 and I was making about 1/20th the money then that I'm making now. A lot has changed since the buck-a-gallon days of 1999, but we were really not paying the true cost of energy then.

Phil, here in Germany the price today is Euro 1.35 for one liter, that`s about $ 6.80 per gallon.
Here they expect soon the price of about Euro 1.50 per liter, that would be about $ 7.60

Hans,

California prices just under 50% of Europe's -- that sounds about right. Truth is, if gasoline cost us what it costs you, I wouldn't be driving any less. Some of our price increase is due to the risk "tax" the energy markets are putting on oil on fears of a showdown with Iran, but more of it here is due to lack of refinery capacity. Aside from some operations in the Gulf of Mexico still not up and running after Katrina, there is a conversion from MBTE to ethanol going on that has some refining operations offline or at reduced capacity. And then there is the perpetual X factor of, "just what are those oil companies doing to manipulate prices, anyway...?" Barring a change in circumstances internationally, we should see prices settle back a bit in a few months.

Compared to most similar performance cars, my V delivers reasonable mileage in real conditions.

$3.09 for premium by my house in Phoenix, Tucson is 10 cents cheaper. Toyota and Lexus dealers are overstocked with hybrids and discounting those more than the standard models. I think the public has figured out the payback time and inflated EPA numbers on the hybrids.

So Harry without all the taxes what would one gallon of gas cost in Germany? Here in New York with regular gas at a little more than $3.00 a gallon about .63 cents is tax so without tax gas would be 2.37 a gallon. I've co sponsered legislation to drop the state sales tax on any amount over 2.00 a gallon for imediate relief.

Bill, without any taxes the gallon would be (about 3.8 liters) Euro 1.02 in $ about $ 1.30/gallon.
I visit the US 1 to 2 times a year and if it was in the 80s or 90s you allways pay about half the pice what we pay here in Germany. Some things never change!!!!

Are you sure, out of $ 3.00 it`s only .63 cents tax on it???

Well, my car is filled up:yesnod

:eek immediate relief?
Based on 2.37 per gallon, how much state tax is there on that .37 cents anyway?

Here in Cincinnati, you can buy premium at Kroger (cheapest around) for $2.21. Most other places around $2.50

Yea!, tell me it's not supply and demand. The closest refinery near you is in Louisiana or Texas. We are surrounded by refineries and where paying $315 a gallon.:banghead:banghead :puke

Based on the sequential law, morning will be $3.39 and evening will be $3.49. Better fill up quick.

Let's not confuse the Bay area with San Fran. I meant San Diego, and that was only one idiot owner and I understand people where there in droves, just to say they paid $4.19

Gas Prices

Phil nailed it.

Some of us will pay whatever it costs per gallon.

The world is awash in crude oil production. The problem is lack of refineries and obstinate obstruction by the environmental wackos against more nuclear power plants and/or, the exploitation of our own resources for petroleum independence, including off-shore reserves and ANWR.

The U.S., Germany, France, etc. could alleviate the high gas prices by reducing the absurd taxes they collect per gallon, however, I doubt that this will ever happen.
This would require courage and thought on behalf of our elected officials.
Unfortunately, those we elect to perform these tasks ,cater to the dependency element of our societies.

Until these root causes are corrected, we can all expect gas prices to remain high.
