Gas Tank Cover??!!

2799 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  standby
Anyone else have this problem?

The gas tank cover on my '05 refuses to "click" shut after I open it. It will usually shut several hours later, but yesterday I had to drive three hours on I-95 with the gas tank cover flapping in the wind. It still wouldn't close this morning when I took it to the dealership.

Any thoughts would be welcomed!

Not I

Happy New Year to another DC XLR owner.

Never had this problem or heard of it on the forum. Do you get the error message when it is open?

I know some folks even get an error message when they don't turn the cap a full 3 turns.

I go to Lindsay in Alexnadria, and they have been very good about fixing things (unless they absolutely can't reproduce it - although they even replaced the Digital OnStar unit when the first one had a hum and they thought it was normal).
It's not the screw-in tank cover that's the problem . . . it's the painted door that covers the gas tank.

I had the problem several months ago, along with a situation where the fuel indicator would read empty when, in fact, there was a full tank of gas. They had to replace the fuel tank in order to fix THAT problem, and the gas tank cover problem seemed to fix itself at that time. But it's started up again.

My car is at Lindsay Cadillac for service right now, and I expect that they'll be able to resolve the situation.

This is a new one on this site. That catch is electronic and it probably is bad. Your dealer should be able to accommodate you.
