I live in Illinois and we are required to display a front license plate, however, my car didn't have the bracket installed and I haven't seen one with the front plate installed. Does anyone have photos of the stock bracket? I am assuming there is one available. I am concerned that it would block my ACC radar.

I have had a 04 xlr and currenlty a 06xlrv....live in Ill and have never had a front plate.
Larry,

How do you get by with , that? I've tried on other vehicles here in Illinois and have received warnings to get the front plate installed. The '04 I have came with the bracket on it. Doesn't look very nice in my opinion-but I'm stuck with it now. See you in a couple of weeks.

A few other states require front plates too (i.e. Texas). Don't they issue you two at registration? In Alabama, they're lucky for some to have any on the back.........only "Roll Tide" (UAB) tags are usually on the front.

If you go to the thread on "photos from Photobucket.com" under Technical Discussions and scroll down, you'll see a front plate on "Lola" posted by "Lola's Mom."

I live in Ohio- front plates are required here also, but I REALLY dislike the look, so I've never put them on. I don't want to jinx myself, but I've never been pulled over for it..... yet!

I saw a unique way to get around this problem on a new Corvette the other day; the plate wa displayed on the black rubber air dam underneath the front bumper! Yes, the plate looked like sh*t, but at least it was displayed! I'd do the same if I were forced to put it on.

In California it's the law, but whose minding the store. Knock on wood, I've been here since 80 and have never had a front plate, but my 06 was drilled and the bracket was installed by Allen Cadillac here. I asked why didn't they ask me first and I was told they didn't have to ask me, it's the law, so I have two painted plugs in the holes whch will be removed when I get home and have the slight ding repaired that happened at the dealers.

Front Bracket

There have been many posts on this subject, each city or municipality decides on if they make it a primary offense or secondary offense. Most areas the police will not stop you if you dont have a front plate on, but get stopped for something else and they will most likely give you an additional ticket.

The city of Chicago will give you a ticket even if a meter reader notices you dont have it on, where as most burbs won't.

If you need the Front License Bracket instructions come with each bracket. The part number is 10300539. They have to drill two holes in the center of your bumper to attach the bracket and it will partially hang over/in front of your air intake, though not stoping the air flow.

Thanks

Putting the license plate on the front bumper skirt is a great idea. :thumbs It would act like one of those old "curb feelers" and protect you at the same time against those mean old parking place concrete bumpers. You'd know when to stop when you hear the "CLING" of the plate against the curb.

Hi everyone this is my first post, since I just acquired our XLR last week. I love it!!

I was out installing the license baracket today, since Utah also requires a front plate. The kit comes with everything you need to install the braket. However, it is very scary to drill tow holes in the front bumper. Supposedly ther are two location dimples in the bumper, but I didn't see any so I just centered the bracket on the character line on the front bumper. I drilled two wholes with a 1/8 drill bit for the tow top bolt/ rivet. I know need to buy a 9mm bit to enlarge the wholes to accomadate the rivet. You don't want to make the drill wholes to large are the rivets will turn and not expand and tighten down.
Also, installed the two side wings on the lower air dams, but the wholes were predilled. Not as scary.

Take Care,
Uintah

in VA. we have the same problem. i cut the plate down and mounted it with one bolt that is in the center of the air dam.if you look through the front grill you can see it. back off a little bit from the front of the car and you can see it. TA DA!!!

I'm in California - and have had several cars without front plates and no brackets - the fine is $25.00 and I just pay it. I'm a lawyer, believe in civil disobedience. Aesthetics are more important to me than the cops.

You stated previously that you would need to rob a bank to buy a used XLR ... may I suggest how you can save $25 at a time? :lol

I've got a front bracket if anyone needs it

I live in PA and my car came with the front bracket kit in the trunk. Since we don't need a front plate in PA and my wife won't let me put the Notre Dame plate on the front of the car for fear of spoiling the looks, I've got the front bracket kit I can send to someone if they'd like it.
