extended warranty

I am going in to order my XLR and was wondering what everone though about getting a extended warranty.
I have never gotten one before but that is because I have never bought a first year car or truck. I like for them to work the bugs out first. Plus I trade them in after about three or four years but I think I would like to keep this car a LOT longer. I plan to only but about 5k-6k miles a year on it.
I have been reading all the threads in this forum and there are not that many things going wrong yet with this car that can see but seeing as this car has no track record what do you all think? I know it comes with a four year warranty but with ALL the new things on this car I am not sure.. Anyone?

I have mixed feelings. I have only purchased one extended warranty in my life and it turned out I never used it.

Nevertheless, do you purchase life insurance, especially term life? You hope it never gets used...

I guess my opinion is that there are so many little things on the car that could be expensive to fix if they go wrong that it might be worth it, just for peace of mind.

Make sure you check what it actually covers. If it only covers major items, it might not be worth it.
motorboat,

The GM's extended warranty is the only product to purchase, which is a very good product. You do not want to purchase an aftermarket extended warranty period.

Warranty?

Anyone have a link or source to view details of the GM Extended Warranty?
Eyedoc,

For some reason I never found myself having to obtain information about GM's Extended warranty on line. So I attempted to do so and found it unsuccessful. GM has a very good printed product documents, so I guess you need to go your local Cadillac dealer and just as for the information regarding their extended warranty.

I have owned a lot of Cadillacs and have found that net over all the GM Extended Warranty, not after market, has worked very well when needed.

The GMPP contract with the most comprehensive coverage is a Major Guard contract. It will cover most electrical and mechanical items on the car. Deductibles vary from 0-200.00. You can also opt for several different time/mileage coverage choices.

Buy The Extended Warranty (from Gm) If You Plan To Keep Car After Warrnty Runs Out

Tip I Checked Price With Dealer And Then Went To Gmc Dealer Accross Street From My Dealership. Save About $900 For Same Warranty
I agree with Don Mueller in that the GM Protection Plan is more affordable but it also is hassel free when you need it. It's a hands down no brainer.

I have the prices and the dealer has even given me a better deal on the price but what I don't have is a list of what it does and does NOT cover. Anyone know where I can find out. I got the car about a month ago so I have some time I think to do this. I though I might get something from GM but have not so far.

The GM dealer should have copy of the policy. The GM insurance covers the same basic thing the original warrenty does. I speak with some knoledge, I have been a lemon law arbitrator for over 15 years.
We have a dealer on corvetteforum.com who does some pretty good deals on Corvette extended warranties. I'm not sure if he can do all Cadillac or not but it may be worth a call to him. He has done a great job for our members over there.

I would expect there are enough dealers on this forum thta can offer
the GM extended warranty.....what's the best price??
If you can not post prices, please send me a private Email
as I will be purchasing when I figure out how much to pay

what have all the owners here paid or been offered for coverage??

I was offered $2400. for 6yr/90k/ full coverage
....how does that compare??
Is it $900. over or under???

compare notes , everyone will benifit
Does the GM warranty actualy cover the entire top ...all sensors, motor etc...in other words if my car's hartop broke..I just want to drop it off and they fix it.

Can it do that?
Why buy it now? You can buy an extended warranty at any time as long as your car is still under warranty. So you have 3.99 years or 49,999 miles before you need to buy said extended warranty. I've done this with an Allante and a Grand Caravan. You'll need the car inspected before the original warranty runs out, then have them fix anything under the existing original warranty. THEN buy the extended one. Why give them the money now? You might not have the car 3 1/2 years from now.

Rex. Sounds right to me. I don't part with money unless I have too.
With the Major Guard contract, the list is what it does not cover. Glass, trim, paint, wear and tear items. In the top, the electronics are covered, but the weatherstrips, for example, are not. In the seats, the heater and cooling fans are covered, but the seat cover itself is not covered, unless the only way to get the heater element is part of the cover. The rear glass is not covered, but the grids in the glass for the defroster are, so if replacement of the glass was necessary to correct a defroster failure they would pay for the glass. These are not issues I have seen on this car, merely examples. The brake pads and rotors are wear items, as are belts, hoses, wiper blades, filters and the like. You can purchase the contract as long as the car is still in warranty. I do caution you to make sure that the contract is a Major Guard. There are different levels of coverage available.
Having dealt with a number of aftermarket companies in getting claims paid, I doubt you would want to spend the same kind of money for a contract that usually calls for LKQ parts in the performance of repairs. This is usually in the fine print, and depending on the company could be anything from used, remanufactured, or aftermarket parts. Not bashing the companies, but GMPP requires the use of new, GM, or AC Delco remanufactured parts in the performance of repairs at a dealer. The reman parts are generally alternators, starters, steering gears, engines, or transmissions. Radios are required to be repaired by the same AC Delco repair facility as the factory uses. It is your car and your choice.

Greetings,

If I elect to keep my XLR past the orginal warranty, I will purchase the Extended Warranty. I have had it on all my cars. With all of the technolgy installed in the XLR, I would not own this car without it.

I agree!! I will DEFINITELY consider the GM extended warranty when the current warranty expires. 4 years or 50k miles. The top and the lights alone will pay for it. By lights I mean the front headlight assemblies which were just replaced this morning due to the melted lense yellow bulbs being too hot.

The new ones are $1,000 APIECE!!! For a lense that you can't get to since the whole assembly is sealed!!!

What's worse IF you are a stockholder is what they did with the old ones --They tagged them and put them in a large laundry type cart UNWRAPPED so the outside lenses were scratched by the metal parts that were in there already to go back to the factory warranty center.

AND THEY WONDER WHY THEY ARE HAVING MONEY PROBLEMS!!!!

Regards

Extended Warranty

Extended warranty does not cover convertible top!! I know if I purchase the warranty, this is what is going to go wrong
