I am approaching the point of either declining or accepting an option for an extended warranty (NOV07) on my '05 XLR. My questions are:
- Has anyone exercised the extended warranty?
- If selected, has it been exercised on an issue?
- If not selected, has there been any regrets?
- What kind of warranty claims have people seen?
- Is the +$1K worth it?

I have had a couple of warranty claims on the XLR that would have been very costly if they had occured without the warranty, but I consider them "infant mortality" issues. After the bugs are out after the first 4 years, I don't know if an extension is really necessary. As would be predicted, the claims pertained to the convertible top mechanisms.

Cadillac Major Guard Warranty

Cadillac Major Guard Warranty
Ken,
I only recomend Cadillac Major Guard.

As long as you are under the original 4yr. or 50,000 miles, you are eligible for many types of policies. They vary on length of term and mileage, with various deductables. Contact your dealer BEFORE your original warranty expires.

For those that were concerned about the top mechanics, it is all covered under the Major Guard, do not take ANY other type of policy. If your dealer does not want to do the Major Guard, or if you feel they are out of line, simply contact me.

Thank you

Allan,

Thanks for the info. I'm going tomorrow to have the Analog-Digital conversion done. I'll take that opportunity to sit down with a Dealer Rep and discuss options. I have until Nov07, so I thought I'd start now.

I'll also be listening very closely in BG for any related "disussions."

Ken,

Please explain what you mean by having until November '07 to extend your warranty. Is it because of the mileage you have on the car? If that's not the case and you perhaps bought your '05 in November 2004, wouldn't you have until 2008?

We also have an '05 and are very interested in what you learn and decide to do.

Best regards,
Ed and Sandra

warranty

ALLEN, THAT ALL SAID, THE BEST I COULD GET WAS A GMPP AND IT IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL BUT I BELIEVE ITS THE BEST I COULD GET AND IT COVERS THE TRUCK MECHANICALS AND ALL MAJOR ELECTRIC COMPONENTS. ARE WE CORRECT IN THAT ASSUMPTION?

GETTING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION I KNOW OWING A CAR LIKE THIS, ITS WORTH THE 1000 TO BE SAFE. I HAVE SEEN THE COST OF MOST OF THE MODULES AND ANY 2 REPAIRED WITH LABOR WOULD BE OVER THE 1k THEN AGAIN YOU PROBABLY KNEW THAT. ITS JUST A GAMBLE TO SEE WHO WINS I GUESS. JIM

Ed and Sandra,

Duh. :crazy My bad. You're correct. My wife corrected me too soon after I sent the message. I told her I was going to check tomorrow and she gave me one of those looks.

I guess I'm a little fearful of the event, thinking way too soon. It will be Nov 2008........maybe; The wife's puttin' on the miles.
