I recently got a beautiful 2005 xlr with only 1700 miles on it. It is back at the dealer for the 3rd time because of surge problems and the fact that it has died while driving it. It died 3 times while I was taking it to the dealer yesterday. I was not happy as I was worried about getting hit from behind as I had to turn it off and then restart it during rush hour traffic. They have already replaced the computer brain, wiring harness, and the gasoline flow valve. Has anyone heard of this problem?

Did you happen to get a bad tank of fuel??

If the car isn't full, I would go to a Shell or other good brand name gas station and fill the tank up with high test. If the problem gets better then you are on the right track.

Thanks, but no, it wasn't the fuel. Cadillac thought it might be the part that balances the fuel between the 2 tanks so they replaced that but it has happened twice since. It has happened when the gas tank is low and also when the gas tank is full. Each time I had filled up at different gas stations, always with premium fuel. It has happened going 45 with my foot on the gas and when the car is coasting to a stop. I miss my car, but I don't want it back unless they are positive its fixed. If it had happened on 95 or the turnpike I might not be here!

I agree IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE!!!! They should make it right, test it and then give it back to you.

We sure met some very caring XLR Exec's in Bolling Green. So IF it isn't resolved to your satisfaction real soon. Let the site know so one of them can be contacted.

Regards

Engine quitting?

I had an engine problem a few weeks ago. In my case, (I have a 2005) after I started it, there was a howling/whistle/tone sound coming from the dash. While I was trying to isolate the sound, the engine quit and all the dash lights started flashing on and off. I repeatedly tried to re-start to no avail. The dash 'flashed' me several more times, and the engine would not start at all.

After towing it to my Cadillac dealer, over several days, they tried and could not replicate the problem. Although I still get that annoying whistle/tone sound, (which eventually stops after about 5 - 10 miles) the engine runs just great. Heck, I made it to Bowling Green and back! Whatta fine weekend.

Anybody have a similar experience?

I actually have a different engine surge problem w/ my 04. At approx 1,350 rpm, engine / drivetrain will stumble / surge / buck - quite noticable especially before engine is fully warm (I live in Florida, so this happens in 90 deg. as well as 50 deg.). Has never stalled (yet..), but will slightly rock the car - and will happen at 5mph or 35mph (gear dependent at approx 1,300 ~ 1,400 rpm).

Dealer has looked 3 times, but states nothing unusual that they can locate. This is a progressive issue, so getting frustrated. Appreciate any input...

I also live in south florida and as you know by my posts I have been having quite a major issue with surges and engine quitting. My car has been at the dealer for over a week and they just called yesterday and said it was ready. This time they said it was the oxygen sensor. They replaced both of them. I haven;t picked up the car yet, probably get it sometime today. I really hope that this time they found the problem. Perhaps your dealer can check the same.
