My 2004 Nieman Marcus has shut down twice for the first time just post 4,500 miles. The dealer, A Geat Dealer, did not find any default codes. They did look at connectors and other electronics but found nothing out of order. This error first took place less than 1 month ago and again for the second time just a week ago. Each time the engine was restarted micro-seconds later by pushing the start button and both times were at speak, 60mph.

Has anyone else experienced this?

No not at all. But this is not only scarry but dangerous. Sounds like it could be an electrical short. They can be difficult to find. The good news is this type of situation may quickly lead to it shorting out entirely. May leave you stranded but then the problem will be solved. Let us know how this one ends up. :lurk

Engine Stall at Speed

Yes I have had and Engine Stall at 65 MPH on the freeway. Likewise My Dealer did not find any error codes. Has not happen again. What I thought odd the engine started by just pushing the start button. I was sure I would have to make my way over to side of the freeway so I could start the engine (8,500). You know Foot on the brake push the start button.

My XLR is 15 months old with just over 10,000

It sure is amazing how many XLR's are brought in for defects and they never can find any error codes or can not produce the same effect while working on the car. Damn.................I got negative again.

Yes, I had the "Service Stabillitrack" messaye appear four times. When the codes were reviewed, there were none. Hasn't happened again.

Maybe the electric fuel pump cut out. The reason why the car started without the brake is you never turned over the starter. My guess is with it moving down the road by restoring power, it ran again.

had the same experience....I changed 3 lanes on the freeway expecting I was going to have to come to a stop in order to re-start.....likewise it started right back up while in motion.
don't know the cause...never happened again.

Engine quiting

1, Not driving the car enough and using gas with alcohol. Alcohol attracts moisture?
2, I went to buying a pure gasoline product and no more problems!
3, Traded in the Eldo on an 2005 XLR, no problems yet!! Best car I have ever driven!
4, Also installed Corsa Exhaust, it ROCKS!

Hi John,
I never had an engine quiting on one of my Cadillac`s in the last 16 years. During that time I had 2 Eldos - one STS - one DeVille Concours - One Fleetwood - one DTS and one XLR.
and yes, I got the Corsa on my XLR too, you are right it Rocks and Rolls! :flag

Sounds there are 4-5 examples of this happening, just on the forum.

It would be prudent for GM/Cadillac to contact all owners with a questionaire, since this seems to be a rare occurrence.

However, if this many people have had it happen, it should be investigated, no?

Allen - What's the answer to getting this question into the folks who can do something?

Let me get this straight from all of you pros. None of you have an XLR that the engine RPMs drops to 1,200 RPMs when you tap the brakes at 80 MPH and then when you put the foot back into the gas the engine RPMs "is" right pack to the original RPMs at 80 MPH. If this is true, I will be test driving an XLR at my Cadillac dealer tomorrow and then all _ _ _ _ well break loose! Thanks

Between our two XLR's neither one drops RPM's like that when the brakes are applied. Good luck

Engine RPM drop off

Couldn't get back to you until now. I will test drive an XLR tomorrow to see how it performs and if it drives right I will then :banghead tear down the dealers sign and sell it scrap metal. Yes!, I will safely throw the plastic, light bulbs and glass in the enviromently correct waste cantaners.

Went for a ride last evening and tried what you are talking about. When I was coasting down a hill, the tach was reading about 1700 and it felt like there was backpressure from the engine. When I taped the brakes, the tach fell to about 1100 and the car felt like it was free wheeling. I did not think about going back to the gas and see what happened then. Hope this helps.
