Well, my wife picked up her new XLR on Thursday, and drove it home. So, on Saturday, I fially had the opportunity to take it out and drive it for the first time. But, didn't get out of the driveway, as when she got in the passenger side, the door latch would not work and the door would not "close". Roadside service technician came out, and simply said "I don't know anything about these electronics!"

So here we are, with a new car eager to drive, and stranded for the weekend. Dealer said they will come pick it up Monday. I'm curious how they will "secure the door so it stays closed when going back to the dealer, without scratching it up.

Has anyone else had problems with the door latch electronics? any recommendations?

Not a good way to start with a new car! Hope this isn't a sign of future electronics problems! :banghead

Door Latch

Try This Use the manaul door release next to the Pass. Seat. That should reset the Latch. Also pushing the door release button should do the same thing. Have had the same thing happen with my 04 XLR. Not sure how the latch get in the closed position with the door open.

Wish it were that simple for me. I tried all those things. The latch is not in the "closed position. It's in the open position. It just won't catch the door when it's closed. I hear the clicking noise, but nothing happens. Assume it's a bad latching mechanism or wiring equipment.

Electric Door Problem

It may be the same problem that I had some months ago. The door would not close because the window would not index down the 1/4 " it should when it is open and then index back up when the door is closed. This prevents the door from closing tight enough to latch.
The problem was eventually diagnosed as a faulty body control (computer) module. Took two weeks and a bunch of frustration until the dealer was able to get a new one from Cadillac, get it installed and programed. They tried to remove one from a showroom car and install it in mine, but this won't work as the module can only be "burned in" once and will only work with the original car.
Cadillac did reimburse me the equivalent of one month car payment for the inconvenience.
Good Luck!

Over the years I have seen a number of failures on brand new parts, usually mechanical. For me those have generally been better cars than ones where problems developed more slowly. Hope that's how it works for you too.

Tiempo uno..

Once in a downpour I could not get the door to open.

I think my XLR did not want me and the interior to get wet. :nono

I pulled under a cover out of the rain, used the manual release (on the floor), and it apparently reset itself. :yesnod

No problem since. :thumbs
